Another what car thread....
Discussion
Hi guys
apologies for another what car thread but I know naff all about cars so im turing to you lot for some advice.
Ive currently got a 56 plate pugeot 307 but it seems to be drinking petrol for the fun of it absoloutley great for motorway journers but 5hite for trips around town , my dads got a kia sportage and even he says it drinks petrol im putting in around £75 a month (£200 ish if im going to the hospital)and getting 2-300 miles at a push and after it going in for a full service , cambelt change and new alternator (on wedneday) and the rear breaks wearing down my mums decided enough is enough and wants to change car for a more economical one.
As i said tho great car when its on the motorway cruising....
So were looking for a car £6-£7k that can get 35+ mpg , dont want a stupidly big car nor do i want an overly powerfull car , im 19 have two years ncb but ill be going on mums insurance as tbh we've both drove the car the same amount the past year i only really use it to go to and from college and other circumstances so it makes sense for a year to go on mums to build up some funds so ....
Anway guys £6-£7 for a decent economical car
Over to the pistonhead masses...
Rich.

Would have chose the GT version, but seeing your 19, group 16 insurance will be expensive for you to insure while group 6 wont be.

definatley isnt fronting as ive been on my own insurance policy for the past two years...
Due to the driving and other circumstances this year we have both decided that me going on mums insurance would be the easiest for the year to come atleast due to personal circumstances...
So i can assure you im NOT fronting

Who owns the car? - and who is registered keeper?Due to the driving and other circumstances this year we have both decided that me going on mums insurance would be the easiest for the year to come atleast due to personal circumstances...

Be prepared for some very thorough investigation if you have a prang.
'It's going on my mum's insurance, so I can get something nippier' definitely sounds like fronting.
Mum will own the car.
Mum will be the registed keeper.
"something nippier " well yeah wouldnt you expect that if you were/are going for a new car on your parents insurance ?
As ive said were not fronting theres reasons/circumstances to go on my mums insurance for the next year to come ,dont have to keep repeating myself...
It pisses me off no end when my mates go my insuarance is £500 bla bla bla "its your mums insurance isnt it" , yeah how much is yours "£1500 for the pug" .
As you can imagine not best pleased !!
Anyway can we stop debating/suggesting im fronting my insurance and suggest some cars for me and my mother please !!

In regards to fronting, if you live with your mother and you both drive the thing, you might as well put in which is cheaper.
In my circumstances, I'm now the named driver because I keep going abroad for weeks/months at a time so it doesn't make sense to have me as the main driver. As it is, I came back last week and I've been the only person driving it, but I'm leaving again tomorow..
For the record, if you are driving to college every day, then you will certainly be using the car more than her, so its best to put you down as the main driver. If you drive to college occasionally, it won't matter.
Furthermore, I had a prang in the car last year and they didn't do any investigating. I just told them what happened and they explained I might lose 2 years no claims if the other party doesn't have the same story as me.

Bear in mind I believe you may lose your NCB if you don't insure a car for a year (it might be two years, you'll need to check). If this is indeed the case then it might cost you alot more in the long run,
Also, generally unless its a large engined car, its not what you drive but how you drive it. You should easily be able to get 35mpg out of a 306 and even if you are only getting 30, to sell it and buy another car in order to save £250 over a year may not be a saving in the long run.
Of course, French cars are known to have 'issues' such as you are experiencing now where something more reliable may not. If you do want to change it then I'd recommend something like a Corolla or Volvo S40 (Diesel). Ensure you get something very reliable as any small saving in fuel will be irradicated as soon as it fails in any significant way.
