Hi all. I have a preference for sticking my head in the sand with regard to current affairs as I couldn't give an arse, but have recently been made aware of a couple of issues, 1) something to do with pasties, and 2) a bit of a fuel shortage.

Here's my situation. I live in the London area, self employed, need to get to a job in Manchester this weekend, the fuel stations near me were queued out into the street on Thu, I refuse to take part in that silliness, and it happened that my 2.0 Efi Capri that I haven't used for weeks, happened to be full(ish) so used that to drive up North to visit parents place near to Manchester.

Work is today (sat+sun) I have enough fuel to get to Manchester, will work the weekend but on Sunday night have to drive back to home near London which I don't have enough fuel for.
Do you think by Sunday night all this panic buying will be over, and as I leave Manchester on fumes I'll be able to get some or should I abandon the car and get a train.

They say the strike won't happen anytime soon, but all the petrol stations in my parent's town are empty and shut, is this the case everywhere?

Secondly will somebody explain the pasty thing to me.

There is no strike, at some point the general public will realise. But at the worst, you might have to queue for half an hour. Get up really early and go to a nearby petrol station, shouldn't be too bad before 7.

2.0 Efi Capri?

Regardless, visit a petrol station in the early morning or late in the evening...

It was a sound to behold hearing the impersonal PA at Morrisons Harwood imploring the queuing muppets to "Look, BEHAVE yourselves!" yesterday lunchtime hehe .

In my experience it seems to me that the panic buying is only at the cheaper stations and supermarkets, so go to a slightly more expensive one and voila, no que.

Is the train not an option?

/edit - just saw you mention the train in your post. I would take the train and ignore the morons and queues at petrol stations smile

/edit2 - Train from London to Manchester leave early sat morning, return sun night is coming out at just under £70. Direct train with no changes smile

Certainly easier.

My experience would suggest otherwise TBH.

OP - If you're that worried, maybe you should dig out those paint tins, jars and washing up bowls. Manchester & surrounding has the odd fuel stop, so not exactly a worry scenario. Worst case is you pay for SUL - eekhehe
