New Car Thoughts - Anything nice due in the next 12 months?
Discussion
Already thinking about if/when to change my current car (Freelander 2) when the finance is up in a years time. It does nothing wrong, I'm just not sure whether I'll be keeping it.
My criteria are pretty much non-existant. I like anything from the Audi A1 to the Evoque, I'm a bit of a mug for new (each to their own), I don't need 5 doors, I do around 40 miles a day and whilst affording fuel isn't an issue, rising fuel bills are getting annoying so something with good MPG would be nice - I don't care if I can buy a six year old 5L V8 Merc for £15k - I don't want one
Is there anything due in the next six to 12 months that might make me sit up and take notice?

Depends on your budget.
I would be very tempted by the new BMW 640d. It looks amazing, with a very smart interior. A PH'er also has had 45-50mpg out of his. That is insane for a car of that size, power and weight. It also fits in with your criteria of not needing 5 doors.
IIRC they are around £600p/m.

I think that only does around 25mpg. That is one of the dilemas - hard to ignore the solid dull German marques that will do 50-60mpg combined.
Autocar has the combined (I know) at 36mpg. Should be capable of a fair bit more.Bit disappointing really, considering it's power.

I get 25mpg in my 3.7ltr nigh on two tonne demi-behemoth.
The Subarota has to be good for 35-40mpg? No?

Conversely that's better than a Clio 197, with nigh on identical power output and displacement. I managed 28mpg over 15k miles in mine. The 36mpg sounds positive to me.Bit disappointing really, considering it's power.
I think I want one...

You're not alone there. I think I want one...
Though I have heard that Toyota want to do a sub GT86 car which the designer referred to as a 'Student's GT86' which sounds interesting if it keeps RWD.

A budget would be good to know
unless it was a subtle mention when you said you didn't want a V8 for 15k
John.
It's more about VFM if that makes sense. I could go buy a brand new Evoque, but just because I could spend that amount doesn't mean I feel obliged to if, say, an A1 takes my eye.A budget would be good to know
