Alloy wheel/offset question

Hello, I am thinking of buying some alloys for my van. The offset range for the vehicle is 40-45. I've seen some wheels with an offset of 47. Am I correct in thinking I can fit some 3mm spacers, which will reduce the offset to 44, which would be in range, or does it actually work in the other direction and they're just not going to fit?

It would probably be OK, What Van is it? I would be more concerned that the wheels are correctly load rated.

Hmm. It's a renault trafic. I'm not sure how to check the load rating to be honest, but yes you're right that is something to look for..

The Traffic is an oldball stud pattern, 5x118 IIRC so you'd be better getting the correct wheels for it than trying to bodge on wheels from a VW Transporter or indeed a BMW
