I must be officially getting old. I have no idea what the letters on the buttons of the simple stereo in my wife's car mean, without recourse to digging out the handbook. Is it just me, or does it seem like gobbledy-gook to many other PH'ers?

I'm OK with "ON/OFF", and even "BAND", but "WTF" is all the rest?

The next job is to try and find out how to adjust the clock to "BST"!

PTY - not sure
TA - traffic announcement
MENU - this is a list of items tongue out
AUDIO - this means sounds that you can hear smile
CLR - clear, probably clear choices laugh

Not sure with the rest but I simply press all the buttons and see what happens...

If you are too proud to read a book then it's time to seriously consider going on a rampage with a high velicity rife.

I've never had to read a handbook myself, because I'm a real man, obv.

PTY is the airport code for Tocumen International Airport in Panama. Hope that helps.

Whatever it is it looks like a smallish coupe/hatchback with a considerable spoiler. It even has a button advertising the fact.

I think that is for the boot lid. Or are you trying to be funny? Sorry. Looks to me like some sort of Fiat - it's the steering wheel button, for city driving IIRC?

Yes it's a FIAT. Took me 3 years to work out what the "steering wheel" button was for and yes you're correct: it's to lighten the power steering even further. Utterly pointless device!

Still don't know what the "Key" button does.

Lock/Unlock the doors? I'm also guessing if you hold it down for a few seconds it will automatically lock the doors when you first set off.

FIAT = Fix It Again Tony. Apparently, alluding to the fact that they're not particularly reliable. Least my 132 wasn't but this was back in the days of Italian metal attracting tin worm as a badge of honour.

Good job she didnt get a higher spec Grande Punto as the extra buttons would have fried your mind!

PTY (programme type)

This coding of up to 31 pre-defined programme types (e.g., in Europe: PTY1 News, PTY6 Drama, PTY11 Rock music) allows users to find similar programming by genre. PTY31 seems to be reserved for emergency announcements in the event of natural disasters or other major calamities
