Hey, like the title says I'm looking for a new car. At the moment I drive a Chrysler Crossfire, and its costing me a fortune to run. With petrol costs increasing and it being in the highest road tax band, not to mention the price of tyres etc so I'm looking for something with lower running costs. I wouldn't mind the car being a little more practical too, in the sense of not being a two seater.

After looking at cars for a while, I decided on an economic sporty coupe of some sort and narrowed it down to 2 cars. The Honda CR Z Sport Hybrid and the Astra GTC SRi 1.4t. Probably wondering why I didn't mention a Golf or Scirocco, reason being I also fancy something pretty new and to get one of those I'd have to add years and miles to the car I went for to stay on budget.

Heres where I need advice, the two cars in my eyes are balanced out. The Honda has slightly better mpg, and lower road tax, but the gtc evens that out with cheaper insurance costs. The Honda is better looking in my opinion but its 2 back seats are only useful for small children. The gtc is still nice looking inside and out, and has more space but it doesn't drive as well as the CRZ or sound as nice either. You get different toys in each but they are still pretty evenly weighed although maybe slightly in favour of the Astra.

The main difference between the two is the Astra is being offered as a brand new car on 0% finance and it comes with a 100,000 miles warranty so I'm getting more for my monthly budget. However my main concern is it being a vauxhall it will more than likely depreciate like hell.

In comparison the CRZ im looking at will cost the same monthly, but its a 2 year old car worth less due to the interest. It only has 15,000 miles on the clock though so its like new. It has taken a bit of depreciation already, and should hold value a little better being a Honda but that being said when I come to trade it in it will have more mileage and be 2 years older than the gtc, this along with paying interest on it probably evens out the depreciation of the Astra?

So basically its the shinny new Vauxhall with its practicality and toys, or the more solid and nicer to look at Honda. Any advice is helpful, tearing my hair out over this. Thanks!

Should have been more clear on that, I've test driven them both! I prefer the drive of the Honda but not by a lot. But the Astra has things like bluetooth, leather and auto lights & wipers that will make it more comfortable to be in in the long run. Another draw...

I think the Honda - it's a more sensible proposition IMO.

Get the CRZ, in a couple years time, the streets will be FLOODED of the current shape Astra, so I reckon it will have lower residuals then the CRZ. The CRZ is also a better looking car IMO, and has a more original design.

Thanks very much for the input, decided on the Honda. Loads of Astras on the roads already never mind in a year or so. Plus it was more fun to drive!
