New game time! Kind of a twist on the "Barge bargains" and "Shed..." thing.

First, find a new 'normal' car.
Next, find a second hand 'pistonheadish' car of similar ilk, for similar money, in the classifieds. eg Hatch for hatch, saloon for saloon etc.
Then post up the pics/links and "Let's see what you could've won bought!

So, to start...

£12,495 http://www.ford.co.uk/Hidden/Compare/Fiesta/dei1=1...

or..

£11,994 http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3059841.htm

£18,145 http://configurateur3d.peugeot.com/England/207/GR_...

or...

£17,950 http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3724851.htm

Game on!!! smile

I know this isn't comparing like-for-like and "you can't compare running costs" and "no warranty" blah blah blah... but it's just a bit of fun

Wowsers, didn't realise the XKR-S was pushing £100k!

The DBS will also, I imagine, be worth more of it's c£100k in three years time than the Jag.

Nah, it's just a bit of fun... while also actually proving to be quite eye opening!

Like the Golf v Focus RS one. That gets ridiculous when you realise you'd have to pay c£26k for a Golf GTD! eek

EDIT: If you take depreciation into account, the examples of alternative car shown previously would hold their value to such an extent that it would offset the increased running costs.

Perhaps sir would care to read the opening post of this thread, which sets the rules?

However, do note that in two of my examples, the running costs would be approximate.

In the first, whilst the used suggestion has notoriously fiscally challenging running costs compared with the new one - the new one has £60k to depreciate by. The used one dropped from £225k to lows of ca. £60k and have been rising in recent years, which mitigates things.

As for the scenario you propose, Balmoral Green should be able to address your doubts, having done just that.

360s are at t £10k more than that now, it's a struggle to find F355s in that bracket now and they dipped to late £20ks, as did 456s. 550 Maranellos dropped to £30-35k, but are now £45-50k.

New Golfs don't do that, quite the opposite. Still, they're new. hehe
