Lexus/Toyota thingy IS 200
Discussion
The Lexus IS200 is a 2 litre straight six with about 150bhp. Good gearshift and fairly pretty but thats about all that is going for them.
On the other hand... the JDM Toyota Altezza has a BEAMS 3S-GE engine which makes about 200bhp. Its a lot better, but almost impossible to insure because its an 'import' despite being identical to the IS200 in everything except the engine.
HTH.

Certainly far from warp speed, but they do pull well. iirc the engine is a very similar to a Supra block, 2jz or 2jy, i forget. I remember a close friend had a nutty 700odd bhp supra and lifted the lid on my IS300 and said 'this looks vaguely familiar'.
That's correct. It uses the same VVTi 2jz-ge lump as the non-turbo Supras, putting out around 225hp.My GS300 uses the same lump, and it's a fine one at that. Ultra reliable and sounds lovely with an aftermarket exhaust. As for 0-60 times, my GS says 7.5 seconds in the book. I've never timed it myself, but it does go well for a 2-tonne barge with the smoothest auto box known to man kind!
As for the IS300, I had the pleasure of driving one as a courtesy car when my GS was at the dealers. It was a sport model with the manual gearbox. 0-60 times for them are closer to 6 seconds.
Both cars are brilliant, and the turbo engine can be fitted very easily as everything is the same as the Supras and can easily see you into large hp numbers with just a few changes. GS's require major modifications to the gearbox tunnel if you decide to do a manual conversion though.

I never realised they did the IS300 with a manual box over here - must have a look on AutotraderNateWM said:

Indeed they do, however I believe that it was only available on the sport models. I could be wrong, but those were the only manuals I found.Shame as I quite liked the IS200 and the idea of the 3 litre appealed, esp as the smaller engined Sports had a Torsen diff
