I tend to keep a casual eye open for some of my previous cars in the classified and seem to have spotted one I used to own upto 2009. It was listed on PH now sold but the number of owners were listed at the same as when I sold it (2 - I was the original 2nd owner) and miles seem to be either the same or less then I recall selling it with. The seller was either scammed when they bought it (in 2011) or they adapted the cars history :/.
I would expected them to be owner number 4 and for the car to have accrued some more miles than it was sold at in 2009 and I'd have expected an HPI would pick these issues up though its appears to have had a plate change so would that confuse the system? Only 1 pic in the ad had the plate I recognised but the interior rang a bell as it was relatively unique for the car. :/ I've not named and shamed because someone on here has probably bought it and will think its thier pride and joy and I dont want to pish on thier fire but buyer beware and dont trust ads even on here

If you can prove it, do something about it.

I had a similar issue with a car I sold on here a few years ago. The guy I sold it to re-advertised it (on here and on AT) for a bucketload more money than I sold it to him - along with a haircut of 100,000 miles.

Annoyingly, the car was in excellent order and I sold it with just shy of 200k so it would have easily passed for a 100k car.

You say it could have the same amount of miles as when you sold it. It has the same amount of owners as when you sold it.

It could have just been sat on a forecourt/in a barn all this time? Obviously if you sent away the V5 to register to a new keeper something is amiss, could just be a typo in the ad though.

One of my previous cars had spent a fair amount of time sat at a dealer, obviously can't have been bothered how quickly it sold!

This won't work nowadays with the new MOT system will it?

My old car has had at least one additional owner over the ad details (the seller in the ad owned it for a while) so if it had been stored for 2years it would still be a 3 owner car , but I suspect that it was sold on as when it was traded I understood that the dealer had a buyer for it plus they were in short supply /demand at the time (gave me a good price too) hence my thought it should be 4 owners by now.
I had been looking at what the options were to report it, the DVLA advises to seek advice on a report a fraud website but none of thier options seemed to meet the criteria.

This was several years ago.

I've not looked at the new system in enough detail to see where such weaknesses may lie.

Is the number of owners not 'previous owners'?

If it's still the same guy that bought it from you, then that would explain that.

Also, unless the stated mileage is under what you sold it with, there's a possibility that it actually hasn't done many miles.
