Anyone seen this episode? Mike passes up a XJS V12 because of a nasty dent ( read: little dent in the bumper) because it doesnt "speak to him"
He then goes on to buy an absolute rotter of a XJS 3.6 with a rusty bonnet, dashboard dissolving before his very eyes and a roof moister than a welsh moor
I dont know whether to laugh or cry

Um...this is a TV programme for our entertainment, nothing less.
If they bring a car back to the workshop that doesn't require much work, that would make for a boring episode, no?
And from what I've read on here with posts from people on the production staff, the entire programme is just one big blag and most of it is staged, like Top Gear.
It's an entertaining TV show that happens to have buggering about with cars as it's theme, nothing more.
It's about as real as East Enders - just enjoy it for what it is!!

Mike is an actor fronting a TV show, that the production and writing team attempt to make interesting for us to view.

ker' in real life. The fact that you think those things means that his acting is working well! You're seeing the result of a script, careful rehearsals and organised dialogue.

Bit disappointing actually.
This is just about my favourtie show on at the moment. Looking forward to the renault alpine episode tomorrow night. I like mike brewer. Its fine it is scripted. But i struggle to belive that this guy isnt a genuine car guy like us, he clearly has an enthusiastic and is great at at least appearing to know his stuff.

He is a car guy.He was at the recent Classic Car show on the 'Practical Classics' stand all weekend, helping to restore and rebuild an old Triumph Spitfire over the weekend of the show. He got right stuck in and spent lots of hours helping out.
Okay, so it's cheesy. There are some bits that are ... ahem ... economical with the truth (like the so-called selling at the end).
But it's still for my money the best motoring programme on TV at the moment. Watching supercars on TG is all very well, but I'll almost certainly never own one. Wheeler Dealers has mostly cars that I can afford.
And I like the fact that the cars are genuine real life examples - sometimes genuine sheds - which means they've got a few issues and a bit of history. Much more interesting in the brand spanking new cars that TG and 5G get given.

Probably because they can, its the minimum amount of work involved.

t tv.It wouldn't have made much sense buying an XJS that needed little more than some light panel work - better to pick one that shows examples of common problems, of which bonnet corrosion at the back corners, cracking ski slope lacquer, etc are. That way it at least offers a modicum of genuine information to anyone thinking of taking on an example of the car themselves.
I also agree that the shades of grey colour scheme of the first XJS he looked at is not the best and no matter how good it was, would make it far harder to sell on afterwards.
Picking the 3.6 over the 5.3 shouldn't be seen as a lesser choice either. The 3.6 is a much more sensible option for frequent use - the V12 being much more of a long distance GT, and the I6 being lighter and better balanced.
WD is an entertainment show, and I think the format works well. If it was just a dry look at turning cars that needed the most minimal work around for a quick profit it would be horribly dull. As it stands I enjoy watching it as it is, and whilst I could pick all sorts of holes in it, that would miss the point of it.

They're not for everyone, thank goodness, but not all XJSs are rotten and if looked after there's no reason why they shouldn't stay that way. Their ride puts modern cars to shame and even in stock form they're deceptively quick - with a few tweaks they're a fantastic car.
