I have used the Goodyear F1 tyres on the shopping trolley for years now (fiesta st)
An amazing tyre, but I heard Goodyear had stopped making them, is this true?
This was a few years ago I heard that which makes me very hesitant to buy a new set now.
With Bikes ive heard the compound goes off after a few years I assume this is the same for car tyres, am I right in thinking that or do they need to be scrubbed first to go off.
Also, Im thinking of getting the Michelin Pilot Sport 3's (have these on the bike and they are amazing) are they as good as some reviews Ive read.

mmmm yep, they were pretty good - now do the asymmetric, which looks quite well rated, but much more expensive

I GUESS the asymmetric is the replacement tyre for the GSD3.
So I assume they have stopped make the GSD3, which leads me onto my first post is it safe to buy rubber thats sat on the shelf for a few year?

I tried everywhere 3 months ago, including this website, and couldn't find a thing. Well damn that's tempting. Not sure what to do now, they've probably been sat around for a while, was under the impression they stopped manufacture well over a year ago.
Got Toyo Proxes T1R on the rear at the moment, still got GSD3 on the front, they'll need changing by MOT time next January.
I hate dilemmas.

Still availableThey're not making either of the newer Asymmetrics in that size, the only other tyre I'd consider is the Sport Contact 3 in that size.

205/45/16 are on that site but have been on "backorder" since forever. I.e. they aren't coming back.

It can. Tyre manufactures recommend 6 years, however if the tyre has been stored correctly by a wholesaler (out of UV light, away from extreme temperature changes) you can extend that by a few years.Does rubber go off anyway if they havent been scrubbed in?

For shopping cars of average power they are cracking tyres, on anything with a bit of power they do wear quickly.
Under now circumstances, ever take them anywhere near a track on a hot day in anything remotely powerful... You'd be lucky to make it to lunch.
I use Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s on my Alfa Spider - the fronts wear out in about 10k miles, which is about average considering the way I drive it. The backs show hardly any sign of wear and have about 20k on them.
I bought the car with pirelli p6000s on it and promptly changed them as I hated the way the car tramlined on white lines and didn't feel confident in the wet. I've also tried falken 452s which were nearly as good as the GSD3s but not quite.
If you're wearing them out particularly quickly then they're clearly not suitable for your car or your right foot or your tracking is out. I do boot the alfa and exploit the handling, which is why I get about 10k from a set of fronts, which seems pretty reasonable to me.
