Stood adjacent the A1 with poorly car. As I accelerated off the slip road prior to this I changed gear and when I dipped the clutch the engine went flat out and a load of smoke came out the back. Luckily I got it stopped after 10 secs.

The car is a PD 130 Passat on 130000 miles.

Does this sound like a new turbo or something worse?

Bad start to the day frown

possible runaway?

did you have to stall the car the get it to stop or did removing the key work?

Turbo gone and oil burning going past the turbo seals, as long as there is oil left it should be ok with a clean out of the pipe work, new seals and maybe a new or refurb turbo.

Yeah definitely "runaway" as I had to bring it to a halt in 6th gear.

The thing is, I've got it home now so not sure what I should do i.e. put it on ebay as spares or repair or get it fixed?

I've got a feeling it's going to cost a lot frown
