Personally I don't give a toss what others think. I'm looking for a cheap to run commuting tool, that will fit in my garage (full of junk), minimise trips to petrol station, that's "different" from the norm.
But what if your house suddenly moves 300 miles while you are at work
And can I buy your insight?

Looking at mileage rates for electric vehicles, but can't find any info anywhere. Does anybody know if HMRC have guidlines on EV mileage rates?
Do you mean reimbursed for business miles, or as part of a company car scheme? If business miles http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/paye/exb/a-z/m/mileage-expe... - you can't claim for "commuting" but trips to contract sites etc. generally count. I don't believe there is any difference between an EV car and a petrol car.
However, if your employer pays 45p/mile, aren't your running costs significantly lower over the petrol car anyway?
