Driving up the M1 this afternoon, lane 3 in fairly heavy traffic and noticed an ambulance 6 or 7 cars back (headlamps and blue lights flashing).

Pulled in to a small gap in lane 2, and the 3 cars behind me just cruise by... I pull out behind the ambulance and follow him for 15 miles or so as he tries to get through the traffic. The number of times he has to wait for idiots to notice him is just ridiculous. Particularly guilty of not pulling over is Mr white van driver.

Don't people use their mirrors FFS?

been behind and ambulance before slowing me down with the blues and twos on. they only cruise at around 80 to 85mph. In traffic I would be out the way like you though.

Doesn't suprise me sadly. Most of the UK's drivers are tts who don't deserve a licence.

Traffic speed at the time was c.70mph at best. It was a VW ambulance (with full stripes and lights) rather than the classic ambulance... and he was doing high 90's when the traffic cleared enough for him to get going.

No surprise here.

Mirrors are just something to get in the way of mounting your satnav aren't they?

Yesterday on the M5 heading to Birmingham there was a woman in a black Audi Q7 who sat in the outside lane, with nothing on the inside lane at all, for almost 15 miles!!!

She simply refused to pull over & when people did eventually try to pass her on the inside lane, stupid as that is, the dozy bh put her foot down to ensure that no-one could get passed her!!!

She only pulled into the middle lane when she answered her mobile phone.......

I make a big effort to get out of the way, only been caught out once as there was some godawful Rap track on Radio one that had sirens in it to reinforce the gangsta-ness and I thought it was the music, I turned it off as it was annoying me and the siren kept going, was a Police car, didnt get in its way but nearly did.

You pulled over too early - where were the cars behind you supposed to go?

If they'd slowed they would have slowed the ambulance, possibly quite a lot if they had to force themselves into non-existant gaps in lane 2.

As usual, lane 2 had about half the number of cars in it as lane 3. There was plenty of room to pull over.

Also as usual, lane 1 was completely empty except for a few trucks.

laugh

I do the opposite of that - I hear the sirens and automatically check all my mirrors to see if it's me being done (irrespective of how fast/slow I'm going), before realising its the wannabe LA gangsta from the mean streets of Middlesex on the radio.

So why did you choose a small gap to pull into?

I don't know, maybe it was all fine, but my Dad used to drive fire engines and even though much slower than ambulances, he said people making a palava out of pulling over where a pain - he'd much rather they carried on.
