I was idly looking at these monsters earlier.

Are these figures actually right?

5.7 PETROL
Fuel consumption (urban) 15.1 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 31 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 22.2 mpg
0 - 62 mph 7 seconds
Top speed 155 mph
Cylinders 8
Engine power 340 bhp
Engine torque 387 lb

3.0 DIESEL
Fuel consumption (urban) 26.2 mpg
Fuel consumption (extra urban) 42.8 mpg
Fuel consumption (combined) 34.9 mpg
0 - 62 mph 7.6 seconds
Top speed 143 mph
Cylinders 6
Engine power 215 bhp
Engine torque 376 lbs/ft

Surely the difference between the two isn't enough? And if it's right, why on EARTH would anyone look at the V6 PETROL version?

Also, those diesels can (apparently) be remapped up to 275BHP and MORE! MPG for about £300?

Is this right?

Seems amazing to me... biggrin

There is no way that will ever fit in that space.

I thought the 6.1 SRT8 was the petrol of choice, around 425hp if I remember.

It's really weird to see that with a Chrysler badge on it.

Why? It's a Chrysler.

Edit to add; are you referring to the tragic idiots who put faux bentley paraphernalia on the front? hehe

Oh yes, and to answer the OP's question or indeed any question; HEMI is the answer.

Obviously the SRT is better but the 5.7 has 'sufficient' power right through the rev range. Last one I drove was in the middle east and it could play 'crazy taxi' with the best of them.

Great wafters.

Petrol or diesel?

Petrol, unless your doing moon milage.

You will get one much cheaper, as nobody wants to buy them.

Its a great engine the HEMI, economical for its size.

And look, its also got more torque than the diesel, and all over the rev-range.

If you go petrol the 6.1 is the motor to go for.

Yep agreed, although the SRT models command a steeper premium.

HEMI + LPG > Diesel. In pretty much all areas, cost, environmental impact, sound, performance.

The 5.7 shuts down 4 cylinders for eco-duties but the 6.1 doesn't.

SRT8 estate on LPG would be a bit of a weapon.

Shame they (allegedly, never driven one myself) handle like an oil tanker at sea.

They're a heavy old bus but you can still place them precisely, not bad at all on smooth sweepers. A b road blaster they aren't though.

Their greatest weakness is the braking system which never quite feels upto the job.

indeed... handling is "predictable" and inspires confidence IMO but they are no lotus elise.

Brakes are not really a problem as there is plenty of upgrade options available.
