Serious question, many men (and particularly me) own multiple cars at any one time and keep changing them - why do we do this ?

I don't do many miles and two cars could do all I need perfectly well, yet I constantly browse the classifieds even the day after I buy a new car.

I always modify them too.

Currently taxed and MOT'd I have:

Pick up (added IC, increased fuelling and boost)
T4 van (adj suspension, alloys, colour coded bumpers, re map etc)
SC MX5 (only the shell is std)
RX7 ( 99 rear lights and spoiler, added leather, better wheels, bigger IC etc)

I have many projects too (luckily Dad owns a farm) I've always done this from 17 to 40+

Yet I'm about to bid on a V8 Soarer on Ebay

WHY ?

Greed perhaps? Everyone wants more. Maybe you have commitment issues (so bad it happens with your cars too)? I have also heard variety is the spice of life. I wish I could afford to have your 'problem'. biggrin

You're basically a man slag for cars.

Fair play, and I would too if I had the spare time and money.

Greed - not really I do sell some to make space / time for others.

Commitment - played with cars whilst I was single for 20 odd yrs, still do now I'm married with kids.

It's not as though I'm upgrading each time and whilst I could afford "better" cars I just don't want them.

I know I'm not alone in this habit - has anyone else analysed their "problem"

The 996 - yes I drove one yuck

Still looking for a 968 - to replace the RX7

I'd have the Soarer as well yes

If you look in my garage you'll see I actually already own a V8 Soarer - but that's a project.

Haha, well, if I were in your shoes I'd do the same...

My wife hates the fact I change my cars so much. I just liken it to women who insist on a new outfit for everyday of the week.

I'm the same and I hate it.

If I had just one car at a time and kept it for a bit maybe I could have something nice.

I havent had less than two cars since I bought my 2nd car a few months after passing my test.

I just keep buying sheds, projects or quirky cars.

Its a disease.

It's been latent for 40+ yrs and I suspect for the next 40+ too.

Although I do like a nice big V8

I don't actually hate it but it does take up a huge portion of my time which could be better spent elsewhere.

I do think it's a kind of addiction - at least it's cheaper then smoking, drinking, gambling...

If I had the space to store stuff without really any need to tax or insure them, then I'd be the same.

I just like buying cars.

The car in question is almost secondary to the process itself.

I've only just bought one (on order) but I'm already looking at something else. It's stupid really. There isn't even a pattern to what I look at. One day it's swapping my 182 for an R26 or a newer Megane 250, even a Focus RS mkI or old Boxster. The next day I'm looking at a mkII 996 GT3 and trying to be creative with how to buy it!

A friend of mine bought a V8 Soarer, it pretty soon soared back out of his life. Not good.

Drives my Mrs mad, me and a friend are the same.

I can go from an Land Rover to an MX5 to a Saab Diesel within 12months and love them all.

Touchwood I have only lost money on 2 vehicles I have owned,

A Isuzu Bighorn, mainly because it blew up and wasnt worth repairing, second was a Toyota Surf that did a similar thing.

Redgriff500, i like your style.
I have the addiction but neither the competence nor will to modify.
Anyway, no time... Too busy browsing classifieds
