Fitting towbar electrics to a 2008 Scenic. Problems?

I have had the towbar itself fitted but they stopped at doing the electrics as they were 'told' that the extra lights will cause problems with the ECU(!).

Is this true or are they panicking for no reason?

If not, I will do it myself.
