The thread about how long cars had been at a dealers for reminded me of this company.

10/15 years ago I used to look through my Dads copies of Classic and Sportscar and one garage always had a full page advert. Accompanying the pic of each car was a brilliant bit of Swiss Tony-esque drivel, along the lines of "This striking temptress will take your heart" , written for each car.

Does anyone know what I am on about / remember the garage?

Yes! The name that comes to mind is John Brown? Double page spread, usually real mixture, typical Brit classics but oddball pre war / tractor/ random stuff thrown in.

Loved his ads, lots of stuff like

'I've just taken her out on test and she was a delight, makes young ladies smile. Tempted to keep for myself but the Mrs will divorce me'

Better than most of the ads you see these days.

The name does not ring a bell, but the chat does. Again this is digging back 10/15 years but the pictures of all the cars were side on, all facing right. I think the "chat" was above and then the normal info (year / etc) was under the pic.

No, it's not John Brown....I've been pondering too and this was another dealer who displayed fairly small pictures and used phrases like 'This Italian Temptress will tease you, but push too hard and she'll show you who's boss' mostly supercars

Back to the thinking.

If it is the one I'm thinking of, I'm pretty sure it was located somewhere near Royston.

Someone must have a copy of a 90s C+SC lying about... Would also love to see the prices and stock of their ads, I remember back then they were generally pretty amusing.

This guy used to do a lot of that style of ads. At the top of the picture a bit about the car being a female temptress or something similar and under it a bit more technical detail.

The last time I saw his ads was in octane.

Just gone through the archives at Classic and Sports Car for you flicking back to 05. I think he must have been a Classic Cars advertiser.

I'm right though with the smutty write-ups though aren't I? If it was a 928 it would be 'This German takes four in a bed with her curvaceous body....'

A quick flick through my archives of old mags showed John Brown getting closest to what was described, as mentioned early on.

An example on a road-legal speedboat (yes, you read that correctly!):
"I am just fixing roller skates to my water skis so that I can go road skiing with my mother-in-law around the M25."

Spot on; like a sort of Alan Partridge meets Swiss Tony - "this Lamborghini mistress will make the new owner think he is Rod Stewart..." hehe

I remember this place from the NW Autotrader. His adverts always made me laugh !

Looking at his website, it all seems a bit dull now more's the pity.

From May 2001, description of a 1916 La France:
She comes complete with a monocle and windscreens...
Yes, 15000cc and loads of power. Are you as mad as me? If so, Ive driven it in anger. Please deposit asking price for a test drive.

That's the one I remember from auto trader, the Peary bog readable version, was always ageing pork and Merc SL's.

From the same copy of C&SC is a buying guide on Contachs.
From the what to pay bit: £32,000 bottom line for early LP400S, sought after by a select but fanatical band of purists, but if a car has been hanging around the trade for months there is probably a reason why....

Oh to have been one of the select fanatical few!

Is it just me that when I see a Countach I think it is missing something, pondered it and decided it needs an oily, airbrushed bird with big breasts and a Leopard before it looks right.
