For those of you who have read the 'Is my car a Lemon' thread, has it changed your outlook on the company?
Would it change what car you might buy next?

No. Every manufacturer produces "Friday afternoon" cars and I've seen and heard of car worse than that story from far "higher quality" brands.

Exactly - and to be honest japanese car makers aren't infallible as said. A friend had a Mazda 6 estate a few years ago that had a hypersensitive alarm ( touching the door handle set it off) and then an engine belt snapped

Every manufacturer has stories of cars like this.

I'm no less likely to buy a Mazda now than I was before (which was unlikely to begin with).

I haven't read the whole thread, but one story isn't worthy of shifting my opinion. I'm sure that others have read the thread about suspension problems on a certain Audi. That would make me think.

The problem looks like a crappy dealer rather than the car.

A leaking roof and a few niggles is annoying but not the end of the world.

Why would one story, of which we only hear one side put you off buying a car from a brand?

If you search the web for any manufacturer, they'll always be stories about a 'problem car' - would that mean you'd never buy another car ever again?

In fact, if you spent enough time looking for bad news stories, you'd never buy anything ever again

read the op of the other thread and first thing that came to mind is 'cut and shut' or perhaps a major crash that been badly fixed

My Mazda 6 was faultless.

A friend has a 12yr old 626 which apart from the auto box recently needing replacement is again faultess and now clocking up 1000 miles a week never missing a beat.

Does anyone remember the Car magazine back in the day with the 'Golf VR6 is a Lemon' headline plastered all over the front cover? I'm told by a VW HO mate that it actually hit sales quite badly back then.

Was this the story about a 5 year old convertible that leaked slightly and suffered from occasional trivial problems, but didn't exhibit a rapacious appetite for engines and gearboxes?

I couldn't vote; there was no option for 'I'm impressed with the apparent patience of the dealer and delighted I don't work there'.

Any manufacturer can make a duff car once in a while. Just give any car a good look over and get a professional AA/RAC check before buying.

It was meant to be a new car. I do agree with you that something is really not right with that car.

Would you do this with a brand new car? Can't say I even thought about doing this with the last new car I bought.
Even the Fiat 605c just got a bit of a tire kicking and a drive round the block. biggrin
