I've always fancied an opulent 4x4, especially as I could just stick the mtb in the boot rather than a bike carrier and just loaded up the ole trader and was shocked at the prices! SHOCKED!

First stop? The Nissan Murano. Always had great reviews and it's Japanese and they know trucks. Loads from £4500-5000 with about 50k on the clock. Bargain.

Loaded up Touregs, Cayannes, X5 etc and again, decent prices all round.

£5k on a 4x4 plus £1k on a gas conversion = quids in?

Discuss!

4x4s... They're popular. Lots of people buying them so lots end up on the 2nd hand market. Prices adjust.

People are stscared when it comes to large petrol 4X4s thinking they will cost the earth to run. However, if your annual milage isn't that high and can stomach £455 a year to tax then you will end up with a LOT of car for the money!

Great time to buy... st time to sell!

Trying to shift my crv at a very reasonable 1.3k with 7 months mot, 6 months tax. 4 new decent tyres, new exhaust, various other suspension bits done etc. no one will bite! Looks like I'm stuck with it...

Doesn't bother me too much as I like it but rarely use it and seems silly keeping on the road just to sit on the drive...

I'll be in a similar position when I come to sell my Legacy (another year maybe). Big engine/low fuel economy and 120K miles will put people off but it's had a plethora of new stuff over the past year and drives like new. I'll struggle to give it away.

if you get a pre 2006 one you will probably find the road fund is half of that.

We have a 2003 3.7l cherokee which averages 14mpg, but as it doesn't go very far these days its not too painful,

I keep thinking about chopping this in together with my forester for something newer, as we don't really need two 4x4's - but if we go post 2006 it will cost the same to run one truck versus two so we might as well keep the old ones as they are both utterly reliable
