New Volvo V40

I must say, I'm not a big fan of Volvo's current design language. The lines of the S/V60s are all over the place, and the tail lights of the V70 are nothing short of absolutely and utterly awful.

But I have to admit I quite like this. Much more restrained than it's big brother, and probably quite elegant in black or dark blue (without that weird spoiler and rear splitter, anyway). And the interior looks well put together too.

Whaddya reckon?

Bit small for an estate no? Certainly looks smaller than the older V40s.

Its a nice looking car but I dont see the point of a small estate. Volvo sell the V70 so if you wanted an estate you'd buy that surely?

I quite like it and am tempted to have a look at one. Id understood it was being classed as a 5 door hatch, rather than an estate.

It's not meant to be an Estate, it is meant to be a hatchback competing with the Audi A3, Golf etc.

Its not an estate! This car is going to be a direct rival to the A3 Sportback, BMW 1 5dr, New Merc A Class and the Golf. Volvo are usint the 'V' Prefix for cars with a rear hatch, 'S' for saloons, 'XC' for SUVs and 'C' for coupes

Too slow it does look very nice though

This seems very much a growing segmant. It wasnt long ago when the A3 was the only premium hatch around! I wonder if this is the way Jaguar will go with their new small car?

I based my comment on the appearance of the old V40s, which were estates.
