Aston Martin DB7 daily driver?
Discussion
Hi
I posted similar in the Aston section so hope I do not get in trouble!
The reason for posting in general is I wanted more of a 'general' opinion.
Having recently sold my 911 I am looking for my next daily driver. I will probably only keep it for a year.
Would any of you be tempted by:

I do a 30 mile round commute from Walton into Hammersmith 5 days a week.
Cheers

I know nothing about about them, but surly some serious potential bills.

I am fairly competent with the spanners so would service the basic stuff myself. I think the problem could be sourcing parts....
It just seems a lot of car for the money!
Evos "what to buy for 15K" article at xmas chose a DB7 as the one not to buy.
V12 servicing costs are huge, even at indies not main dealers. I'd get to know these figures very well before you buy.
eta ah its not a v12 - better then. The aston guys are surprisingly positive so hell why not.

Jaguar chassis, Jaguar running gear and Jaguar motor. I don't see why it shouldn't usable and reliable so long as you understand what you are buying.I posted similar in the Aston section so hope I do not get in trouble!

Do expect a few niggles and don't try and make everything perfect and you should have no problems IMO. I suspect there's also a lot you could do to the car yourself or even by a half descent mechanic if need be. And only use the higher costing specialists if you must.
Remember most Aston specialists will charge a lot more money an hour and will likely over price many items. But normal stuff like fluid and filter changes are easy, as are doing things like brakes, suspension and even bushes.

No offence to Evo, well yes it is actually. But some of their buying advise is plain fiction, the rest it total bullsV12 servicing costs are huge, even at indies not main dealers. I'd get to know these figures very well before you buy.

I would quite happily take on brakes, suspension, fludis, filters and the like.

I know rust is an XJS issue, so I'd want to check this out on an DB also. Plus a good test drive so you know you are starting on the right foot.I would quite happily take on brakes, suspension, fludis, filters and the like.
But overall I don't see why they should be hugely expensive to run or maintain, so long as you are reasonable with your expectations.
Or I guess to put it another way. I don't really see why one should be any more costly or difficult to maintain than a BMW M3, possibly slightly easier in fact.
EDIT:
But do expect niggles, silly little electrical things that will crop up now and again or odd rattles. My XJ-S was overall very reliable, but it had a silly issue with the low coolant sensor, the light would flash on very often, even when plenty of fluid was in the system. After multiple attempts it was just easier to ignore it and check the fluid 1 once a week. It never over heated or caused an issue.
And the Wipers used to play tricks, they worked fine, however on delay if you used them for more than 30-40 mins at a time the delay would stop working, but they would still work fine with the flick wipe. But I found I almost never drove the car in the rain for long periods of time, so it really wasn't an issue worth worrying about and certainly not one worth spending silly amounts of money on.
