Sick of hearing about the ring?
Discussion
Seriously, it seems like everywhere I turn, especially on pistonheads, all I keep seeing is stuff about the nurburgring.
You'd swear it was the only circuit out there. It gets 100x more publicity for itself than any other circuit, and I just don't think it's warranted - nothing against the ring at all, just seems completely disproportionate attention is given to it. Am I alone in thinking this way?

Agree with you. Personally I don't car how fast a car goes round the 'Ring if all it results in is concrete "sports" suspension and stupidly skinny tyres which deliver a shocking ride on UK's battered roads.A triumph of marketing over reality.
Is it the world's longest race track? 8 minutes for a (quick) lap is much more exciting than 90 seconds, more fun to watch certainly and I'm sure, much more fun to drive. It's also a much more varied track than pretty much any other in the world, I'd certainly rather a car was developed at the ring than at Silverstone or somewhere. Part of the attraction of the ring is that it's sort of the ultimate B road, which is a lot more exciting than the traditional flat track with only a handful of corners.
Ive been 3 times, in 2006,07 and 08
In 06 i went with guys from the Seat forum, my dad came too and really enjoyed it, he even got to give Sabine a cuddle
That experience had me wanting to go back so my wife and i went in 07 and 08 and again loved it. Not only did we drive the circuit we visited the museum, did karting and watched the Nurburgring 1000km at the GP circuit.
Hopefully i can get back next year.

Because it's where manufacturers test there latest creations, where some of the worlds toughest races are / have been run, the ultimate test of man and machine in one place ?
Etc..
I havn't been yet, I will be going soon though.
So what if it's mentioend alot you don't have to read the thread or take notice of the comment...
Rather irrelevant thread as a whole if you ask me.

Driving round the ring is only part of the experience , the comradery and social atmosphere of people with a love of cars and motor sport is palpable .
This.
Next time I go will be for a proper trackday though, tourist days aren't that fun due to lack of track time from motorbikes crashing.

Have you been ?
This. While I'm also pissed off at manufacturers willy waving over 'ring times for their cars, as a personal experience it's very special indeed. Compared to the half dozen other track days I've been on it's orders of magnitudes more in every respect; faster, twistier, hillier, scarier, narrower, riskier.
It's got a lot to do with the danger I think - you really have to drive like a prat to have a bad crash on a trackday at a UK track if you don't have mechanical failure or slip on some fluid, but at the 'ring you'll be lucky to get away with anything without a trip to the Armco. You never feel more alive than when you're close to death.

Yes, I am sick of hearing about it. People bleating on like it's the most amazing place ever.
To be fair, it is. Well, it was. Things have changed dramatically out there but mercifully, nothing - and I mean nothing - will ever replace the feeling you get from having a beer with or helping out/being helped by other ringers.
The sense of community is like nothing else.
