You know what Im talking about, electric seats, auto dimming mirrors, , rain sensitive wipers, electric roofs, in fact pretty much every flipping useless gizmo that they stuff into every modern car.

Genuinely useful ones would include:

- Bluetooth handsfree
- ABS, Traction control etc

What matters to me in a car is quality of the engine, chassis, brakes, tyres, steering, good design and interior quality. and the way it all melds together.

Honestly it genuinely baffles me - electric seats? grip and slide is much faster and probably saves 40kg in weight. rain sensitive wipers? how ****ing hard is it to flip a switch? its not as if you have to move to get it, its a finger flick away!

Sorry for the rant.

You've got to try to differentiate your modern bland Eurobox from the crowd somehow. Punters go for toys.

Classics and lightweights are your salvation.

Im totally with you!

Modern cars are turning us into the soft fleshy bit in a automated tin can, but I like being a driver / motorist!

You do not represent the majority of the market.

I agree with you though.

Not for me of course - for the idiots that drive the same way at the same speed in all conditions!

I would say cruise control is another useful one. But other than that.... Don't really care!

Just had a look at what the 3 contributors drive and we could be in for a slanging. BUT I agree what a load of tosh, if you can't manage to engage with the car your driving other than point it in the right direction and push the loud pedal what's the point. Actually that is the best bit so I might have scuppered my own argument.getmecoat

Bluetooth?
If I'm driving the phone Is off. If it's that important, I'll call you back when I get where I'm going. Usually it isn't...

My favorite gadget? Heated screen.

This topic again; gadgets and new stuff = bad. Why do these things annoy you enough to start a thread? Can't you simply buy a car without them? Oh and auto dimming mirrors seem fairly useful in my opinion.

Why?

A factory Bluetooth kit is a god send, get in car, iPhone linked automatically, press play, music comes from speakers.

You don't have to use it for calling people.

Because my Wife insists on them and I hate paying thousands of pounds for them.

Wipers, quite agree. Lights only useful on holiday in those alpine tunnels where its a god send.

But some stuff is great,

Central Locking and remote "plip" keys
ABS
Traction Control
Air Bags
Bluetooth

Annoyances
Starter buttons - Aargh! Whats wrong with just turning the key
Rain Sensing wipers that can't work out if it is actually raining
Electric seats
Fog Lights that don't apparently turn off.
Alcantara steering wheels for road cars

Get a different wife. Or change the thread title to reflect your true source of anguish.

Genuinely didnt know that. Can see the use in that, I'd always put bluetooth car kits to being for phoning.

I don't have an iphone or ipod etc though, I do have plenty of cds mind so still slightly useless for me haha
