Help PH, Help! smile

I've managed to snap the locking wheel nut off on the MINI - I suspect that the wheels haven't been off in a while!

As a result, I need to get the remaining lug removed and then get the thread tapped - does anyone have a recommendation of where to get this done?

Any tips or recommnendations would be appreciated.

I'm near Luton if there's any local suggestions.

Cheers

Isn't it a bolt? Have is snapped flush with the hub, or is there something there to get a grip on?
Yeah, sorry, bolt. It has snapped flush with the hub, yes.

No, sadly not. The bolt conveniently sheared off flush with the hub.

Time to look-up a mobile mechanic - they'll have mobile welding kit so they can weld on a bolt, heat it up and then get the remains of the bolt out.

Mind you, jobs like this can get pricey - how much just to replace the hub?

I snapped a wheel bolt on my car so I only have 3 on that corner.

No adverse effect so far, over a year on smile

Welding a nut on then just undoing is probably the best course - retapping is a bit of a ballache, and drilling it out will take a while as they're quite hard. I'd take it up to your local tiny garage and get them on it. smile

Any proper garage will be able to get it out with an 'easy out' I imagine.
Have a ring round, it'll be pennies to sort with no lasting damage.

The problem may be, if it's in there so tight so snap off, you or whoever tries with an easy out will struggle. frown

I'm not. Don't worry, it can't be as bad as the last time a wheel fell off the bloody thing hehe

So nice to know you care about my safety hehe

This is the sort of thing I was hoping for (more the 'easy' part)...but...

...the other nuts came out with a bit of work so I suspect its going to be a pretty stubborn thing to move.

I'll ring around dsome local garages, that sounds like the best option....would ATS or similar be a good option? Surely, they must see this all the time.

Apologies, don't know why I typed that. I meant just under a year on, MOT expires in August smile

Hmmm ATS, just be prepared for them suggesting you also need four new tyres, a new exhaust, air con gas change and a full service. hehe

Some how I lost a wheel nut before a MOT once and the car failed its MOT because of it!

Glad they noticed tbh!

Ha. Could do without that smile

Off to the local garages tomorrow, see if someone fancies a challenge. Not sure what it will cost.....I'm thinking its a "how long is a piece of string?" type thing.

You could get a replacement hub off eBay for about £40.

Knock the indentation out of the driveshaft nut with a chisel, undo the nut, then 4 bolts on the back of the hub and swap smile You'll need a new driveshaft nut when putting it back together.

Edit - if it's the rear, even easier.

OK, cheers. I'll see if someone can sort it tomorrow, if no luck, I'll look into replacing the hub, cheers.

i just fixed this similar problem last weekend. except it was a rays extended wheel nut, almost exact same situation of snapped flush in the wheel.

i used makita drill and a chizel and a BFH, after an hour and the remaining part of the wheel nut was all in filings around me, managed to pull the wheel over what was left on the stud. had to replace the stud though.

wasnt fun.
