I have a challenging problem: I live in France and want to buy a small sports car. For various reasons - not unconnected with the fact that all secondhand vehicles in France are stupidly overpriced and due to the geography of the country invariably have high mileages - I shall probably buy a car in the UK.
It would be good but not essential if the car was LHD.
My current shortlist is:

Mazda MX-5 (from many accounts this would seem to be a no-brainer)
Toyota MR2 mk3 (I could come to terms with the lack of boot)
Fiat Barchetta (Obvious choice to get around the LHD problem)

This is not a terribly serious purchase, I simply want something to rasp around the country roads in, wind in what is left of my hair, flies in teeth, smile on face - before it all gets too late.
I look forward to your suggestions!

You could go for a yank depending on £££ you could have a Corvette C4 which should fill the performance brief very nicely, handles well, not shockingly bad on the petrol front, quite practical and not mahooosive either. Or a 2001 MY Mustang which is proper small
