Ego booster?

They are small fry in the big picture though, and make some lovely lovely bikes now.

The below came across Debtwire two weeks ago.

Ducati may have attracted attention of Fiat as Agnelli family member says he would consider bid

Ducati, the Italian motorcycle group owned by private equity firm Investindustrial, may have attracted the attention of Fiat, Il Fatto reported. The report cited as evidence comments by Lapo Elkann, a member of the Agnelli family that controls Fiat. Elkann noted that at present Investindustrial was asking too much for Ducati but that if it lowered its asking price he would be able to go ahead with an offer, the item said. The item also quoted Elkann as saying he was a patriot and that it would be a great disappointment if Ducati was sold to a foreign company.

The report noted that Audi, a subsidiary of German car producer Volkswagen is believed to have offered EUR 750-800m for the 70% stake in Ducati held by Investindustrial.

Intelligence Grade – Rumoured.

Elkann is a very interesting character (jammy git) with an even more interesting collection of cars.

Odd move on the face of it, but Audi really couldn't buy any more car brands without a lot of cross over with one of their existing ones. Ducati is almost to bikes what Ferrari is to cars; certainly by the time VAG are done, it will be.

Only question is: will they make a special sales rep edition with a 1.9TDI?

Poor Ducati owners, they'll have to stop riding on proper roads and start tailgating on motorways. How do you get a box of samples on a 916?

I'm doing this stereotype thing right aren't I?

Audi clearly want a real test of "how exciting a thing they can make dull".

The rumours have been there for a long time, it makes sense as its an easy "in" for vw into the motorcycle market.

It's certainly a lot of pies Herr Piech has his fingers in these days...

As long as they can give enough money to sort out the GP12 on time for this year's championship and give Rossi a chance to stand on the rostrum I don't really care who owns what.

Where can we read more about his car collection? That 458 looks killer.

Edit: Just typed "Lapo Elkann cars" on Google - lot of interesting stuff. Guess when you got that type of money, ordinary factory built cars aren't enough smile

It's a bit premature to say that's the company ruined before anyone has actually done anything. They seem to have done a good job with Lamborghini (as was already said.) so there is no reason to automatically think that Ducati is ruined. At least wait and see for a bit first!

Coming to a motorway service station soon...

Audi A4 2.0TDI S-Line 'Ducati Edition'.

cry

It was bad enough when Alfa used the Ducati name on a 147, but at least that was stylish and Italian.

Actually, I think that you'll find that the CEO's of Honda and Yamaha wrote one word in their diary's today, and that was 'Bugger'.
