A cat C licence is the same as an HGV2. C1 is the one you are thinking of. As for how much....no idea, but you can go straight to Cat C which will also give you the C1.

You will need to apply for a prov HGV licence, which involves a medical. Once you've got that it's the usual theory test, then practical

Not long done mine.

£100 medical i was raped i now know this as i assumed it had to be done by your own doctor. (this is not true any doctor can do it)

Theory and hazard perception £50 in total.

Licence application i cannot remember but im guessing it was around £30

Lessons and test in a package i paid £950,

While i was researching instructors i found the courses to range from £900 to £1100 for your class 2.

But as has been already stated doing your class 2 gives you the C1 too.

About £750 is the least that you can hope for. A C1 wont cost a deal less, but is relatively worthless, so go for C, which is HGV Class 2, as was.

Then to drive an Artic, repeat the costs approximately for the training and exam to get the Class 1 (C+E).

Safe figure I think to work off is about 2-3 grand from start with just a car (B) licence to Class 1 (C+E) licence.

Retests are circa £450 too... So if you don't pass first time it can get expensive. IIRC the test is £115 on its own, plus wagone hire for the day.

CPC all costs too. You have to have it (if you wanst paying for work)

Slim.!

I passed my class 1 in 1995 (it cost me a grand back then) and I had to bull sh*t my way in. No experience = no job.

You're best bet is to find a local haulier who might start you on a 7.5 tonner and work your way up from there. If you're any good you might find yourself in a 44 tonne artic before you know it.

Don't be put off though. If it's something you want to do go for it. My HGV licence has meant I've never been out of work and now with a wealth of experience I can pick and choose who I want to work for.

LGV C covers LGV C1 (7.5 tonnes) so go for C

Medical - use form D4 - NEVER pay more than about £50 - google LGV DRIVER MEDICAL
http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/forms/~/media/pdf/forms... - print in colour only

Provisional form D2 - tick C & D ONLY - D is for PCV and the medical will then cover that if done in future

LGV theory package - good price!! - http://www.desktopdriving.co.uk/product_info.php?c...
Book all these three theory tests at the theory test centre for ONE DAY
1a - LGV theory £35
1b - HPT £15
2 - Driver cpc theory £30
Retakes on only those failed - not the lot

Book practical on-road and practical driver cpc mod 4 training with a training provider - WARNING - always VISIT the provider for a chat and to see the instructors/vehicles BEFORE PARTING WITH ANY MONEY
Cost for on-road training including test is usually between £800 to £1200
Cost for practical driver cpc training and test is between £55 and £300 depending whether it is done DURING the on-road training or AFTER it
AFTER means hiring the lorry and the instructor again

Restests are usually £250 to £300 all inclusive

ROG
LGV instructor 2005 to 2008

PS
To go from car to artic (B to C to C+E) I recommend having £3000 ready in case of retests

There is now a commercial forum on this site

Doctors shouldn't be raping you. I'd write to the practice manager in the first instance.

Did he at least wear a condom?

Did a training provider tell you that you had to do C1 before doing C?

If they did then steer well clear of them!!

i have been pricing this up as I want to do my HGV class 1. There seem to be zero work for class 2 and the training company i used warned me of this.

I will be expecting to pay around £2.5k all in, medical, class 2 and class 1, plus CPC including ADR training. ADR training and tanker jobs is where the money is (supposedly slightly in demand in my area too).

The more qualifications you get in the area, the more chance you have of getting work!

If you passed car test before 1997 then doing driver cpc approved ADR will get you at least 21 of your 35 hours BUT if needing to do initial driver cpc then do not do DCPC approved ADR until initial modules 2 & 4 are passed because that DCPC ADR course will not count for DCPC periodic hours unless you have

i passed in 2006 (now 24), my post was slightly vague but the training company manager is a long time friend of my Dad's (also a driver) so I am sure he will make sure i do nothing I don't have to. Thank you for the advice though smile

looking forward to doing it, saving up is just the hardest part!
