Going to spray a mates ex military landy soon, just wondering if anyone knew of (as in, experienced!) any issues with painting over olive drab, any reactions with any particular paints, what would be best primer and top coat to use? Going for a satin black finish. I used to spray cellulose regularly so have basic safety masks but no forced feed stuff so can't be using 2 pack!

Why would you paint over Olive Drab?

It's ok 2Pac is dead, has been for quite some time.

However, I'm with cockwomble, why cover Olive Drab?

Because he wants a black landy not a green one.

If it the old NATO green then you'll have no problems. I have painted aircraft ground equipment before and it acted as a good primer!

Perhaps unsurprisingly, this would indeed be the primary reason... tongue out

What's the latest and greatest? I guess I need to catch up hehe

as to the olive drab, it's tatty, it needs repainting, and it's an ambulance turned into a camper!

Remember the body is aluminium (well Birmabright) if you have any exposed metal, so you'll want an etch primer if you don't want the paint flaking and peeling off anytime soon.

yeah got a tub of etch for the panel with flakey pastry effect on it, fortunately the majority of the paint is sound just very tired.

True. My defender was painted just before christmas in an insurance approved body shop.

They use nothing but 2 pack.

Why not spice it up a bit?

If your worried about reaction with existing paint then why not just put some " barcoat sealer" on first.

It's so easy to put on, then just paint over the top, no reactions at all.
