The history of the 3ltr 3 series is as follows

2.9 ltr I6 184bhp 1998/99
3.0 ltr I6 204bhp 2002/03
3.0 ltr I6 231bhp 2005
3.0 ltr I6 245bhp 2008

So basically historically it looks like they bring out an updated version every 3/4 years.
Based upon that logic we are now due the next incarnation.
It has probably been delayed due to the new launch of the three series but when is it due out and does anyone have any specifications?

There already has been, non, the 640d is a 3L with 3 Turbos I thought?

ETA: 335d could be included I guess if you're just talking about 3 series.

The 3.0d has been upgraded recently. It now has 258bhp as seen in the 5 series and X3.

Fantastic so that would drop into the new 3 series.
Does it follow the same principle BMW has more power and more economy on each iteration discarding the excellent 8 speed auto gearbox.
