Most cringeworthy manoeuvre

Black Golf GTI on a h plate, a long long time ago
Overtook a pair of funeral cars on a dual carriageway (A12 Gants Hill) when it rapidly became one lane due to road works and had to pull in rather sharpish.....right behind the lead funeral car, with the two other funeral cars right behind me
We proceeded for about 3 miles at a slow pace, with the mourners in the lead car looking back at me and the driver and passenger in the car behind me making hand signals at me (them coffee bean signals), we stopped at several sets of traffic lights too, until it became two lanes again and I managed to slip away and then parked up and cried.
My most cringeworthy driving move, EVER

I was at a roadhouse in brakpan. I was ready to leave but it's a one way system and all forward routes were blocked so I decided to reverse out... Straight into a 6 foot tall concrete coca cola bottle, which bent the rim and so I had to change the wheel right there in front of everyone.
So there you have it. My most cringeworthy moment ever was to be spotted in Brakpan.

1989. 17 years old. Just passed my test and bought a red MK2 Golf GTi 16v. Driving down Park Lane (3 lanes) in London with two mates in the car. Spot a car occupied with teenage girls. Decide to hang back then boot it past them in an attempt to show them what a man I was.
During the 'booting it' phase of the manouvere I realised everyone ahead had stopped at a red light. I was now heading at a rapid rate of knots towards the car full of girls.
I slammed on the brakes - no ABS. massive lockup and screeching of tyres. By some miracle the car screeched across lanes and ended up in the lane next to the girls now looking petrified.
Cue lots of coffee bean hand signals directed our way.

Reversed into a house.
Still not sure how i managed it. All it claimed was my tail light casing and my pride, but very embarrassing with a car full of mates who spent the rest of the trip telling me to watch out for various buildings in case the jumped out at me
Ha!Still not sure how i managed it. All it claimed was my tail light casing and my pride, but very embarrassing with a car full of mates who spent the rest of the trip telling me to watch out for various buildings in case the jumped out at me

I once reversed my dads car into the corner of the house. Mangled the bumper and bootlid. Must have been 10-11 at the time. I got some kicking that day lol.
I once got stuck on the top floor of a multi storey car park on the ramp leading down to the next level. I had only had the car a few days (E60 5 series) and wasn't yet used to the increase in size compared to my E46. It was a very sharp turn onto the narrow ramp and I didn't realise this until it was too late and had the car at the wrong angle and ended up with the front almost touching the offside kerb almost head on, the rear stuck on the nearside kerb and the side of the car a couple of inches away from the wall. I hadn't got a clue how to get out of there as the kerbs were about a foot high and almost straight away there were half a dozen cars behind me blocking the way back.
I ended up going back and forwards a couple of inches at a time going from lock to lock to try and squeeze around the corner without hitting the wall or the kerbs or the car behind me. It must have taken at least 10 minutes of doing this before I managed to clear the kerbs and the wall and shot off down the ramp with a huge queue of cars behind me.
I was so embarrassed.

Two incidents spring to mind:
First one, when I was 17 or 18, driving my mate's mum's Opel Manta. First time I'd ever driven anything vaguely powerful. So keen to exploit its potential that I overtook a car even though it started indicating right., many hand signal from the car and huge embarrassment from me.
Secondly, when test driving an SL500 a couple of years ago, I was on a nice open dual carriageway, trying it out. Porsche 911 in the inside lane minding his own business. As we come up to a roundabout I decide to make sure the brakes pull the car up nice and straight. Check my mirrors, nothing behind me, so go for some fairly sharp braking, only to find that the ABS doesn't work and I have a massive lock-up complete with clouds of smoke and no doubt many thoughts of a what a complete t**t I am by the 911 driver. It was a fairly restrained drive back to the dealer, to tell him the car was a dog and I wasn't buying it!
