My dad buys a Polo
Discussion
Which we went 50/50 in on, since im fresh out of uni. Bit of a shared prospect really, I use it when I need to - my little brother test-drives in it and my dad use it for groceries.
He just came home with one yesterday from the dealer, didn`t even ask me what color. Its 2 years old and with 12k miles.
Why make a post about this you say. Well, what he actually came home with, was a 75 bhp TDI manual with f
k all equipment and balloon-tires!
Flat standard seats, a dog of an engine, PLASTIC steering wheel and gearknob - and very low equipment levels. I appreciate the sentiment of buying something together and share the costs - but he has no clue about cars - he should of asked me for advice.
If I was to buy a polo ( which I was onboard with btw), Id opt for the lovely 1.2 TSI engines, preferably with a DSG and with sports seats and leather wheel/knob. DSG isnt a must-have, but its nice. and the TSI engines are a million miles better than the 75 bhp TDI who takes 15 seconds to 100!
A big bust-up ensued where he basically called me an ungrateful
"who wanted a bigger engine"
. Which is only partly true, I`d prefer the petrol ones for a start!
A Highline 1.2 TSI would only have been like a grand more tops, he bought from a dealer at a premium price! To me, there is just such a difference in perceived quality, enjoyment and fun if you actually spend 2 minutes getting the correct seats, a leather steering wheel and knob, a frisky petrol TSI engine etc etc...
I had a Grande Punto 1.3 75 BHP diesel previously, you have to floor it everywhere just to keep up with traffic! Very tedious.
NEXT TIME, I`ll be doing the buying myself thanks!
General mood around the house is a bit s
t atm, haha...

ungrateful little c**t
From what he describes, he now has about £5k of his own money tied up in a car that his dad bought without seeing if he was okay with it. What with that being an awful lot of money, especially just after finishing university, I'd be a bit miffed too. That being said OP, it is better than being trapped on the bloody loser cruiser. At least be thankful that you can get around without the constraints of public transport.

Thanks for seeing my side of it. I appreciate a new(ish) car dont get me wrong, but I would have bought a car anyway - just an older one. That being said OP, it is better than being trapped on the bloody loser cruiser. My old car was a snotter of a fiat with a 75 bhp diesel, horrible little thing.
So having saved up for a LONG time I was very eager to get into something with a petrol engine which didnt use 20 seconds in order to get up to highway speed.
I guess Im just a bit miffed because I ended up in an even slower car with a rattly 75 bhp diesel all over again after working my ass off for a year in order to save up for something a bit more interesting.
