Pretty cool TVR. Fancy a convoy?

The auto trains seems a much better option than caning the monster for appx 1200 km. Much cheaper too.

I would be interested in your views of it after.

It sounds the perfect thing to do with classics.

Travelled to Laon last year in it and the heat made it pretty unbearable. We actually got there and back without a breakdown, unless if you count the exhaust bracket falling off the back on the motorway which did slow us up for a couple of hours. hehe

Will run a blog. If all goes well thinking of taking three months off next year and doing Provence at leisure.

I was pretty impressed with the auto train. Food was OK in the dining car & cabin was comfy enough to sleep 4. Easy way to cover the miles to playgrounds.

Last time I looked into the auto train they wouldn't carry cars with soft side screens. Not sure how they wold feel about your beast, but bear in mind that they load the cars for you and are very unlikely to put the tonneau on.

There are no Autotrain services in France anymore and they charge an unreasonably high unloading fee thus precluding the German operator from serving Avignon.

The German DB Bahn service recently bumped a group of six of us off the train, saying it has been cancelled, leaving us with a 700 mile drive in Ariel Atoms to do in two days.......

I've often wondered about the merits of letting the train take the train. Sounds like the perfect alternative to flying to a destination and then hiring a car. I can't believe the operators aren't pushing this.

Has HS2 any plans to at least carry cars from Manchester/Brum/wherever to Paris or are they only building pedestrian access outside of the immediate chunnel crossing?

I wonder if it was simply unprofitable or the (French) Dept of transport thought it might catch on too much thus losing vital toll revenue/fuel duty and lobbied it out...

No Motorail but there is Autotrain (from Paris). You don't travel on the same train as the car.

I used to use the Motorail every year.

Having seen the cheese eating surrender monkeys loading and unloading the cars many times I would not, under any circumstances, trust them with a beautiful car like yours.

I would suggest getting a firm with a covered transporter to get it down there for you. A quick google search gave me http://www.anchorvehiclelogistics.com/ - no idea if they are any good, but you get the idea.

Given the Motorail used to cost ~£500 each way it is probably economic (especially if you find someone to double up), and then you can travel down by train or plane as you wish.

I believe you can get a direct Eurostar from London to Avignon in 6 hours, so you can catch them up on that...!
