Having a budget of up to about £13k, but less is better, whats the best hot hatch about, it has to be under 5 years old, and less than a 2 litre for insurance

cant insure a fiesta st, clio 172, or any of the 1.4tsi 180bhps, focus rs, anything with the VAG 1.8t, and i dont want a MX5 in it what else is there?

I can only think of the:

Swift sport - £13k for a new one, £7k for a used one
audi a3 1.4T
warm 105bhps 1.2tsis

preferably, good stereo, leather and xenons.

edited to fix litre issue

When you say "can't" insure, do you mean because of a particular reason? Otherwise they are just more expensive to insure so you reduce that from your purchase budget.

Otherwise you could go for a more alternative choice which could be more entertaining and cheaper to insure because they are crashed less. Hot Volvo's for example.

I thought the ST would have been one of the cheaper to insure out of what you've mentioned, so if that's out of budget then maybe a Zetec S?

By the sound of it you're going to struggle with the insurance on most quick-ish things.

As you mentioned an MX5 I'm going to assume 2 seats aren't a problem, so maybe a Mk3 MR2? When I was looking, they were pretty much on par with an MX5 for insurance, though.

Other ideas that aren't exactly hot hatches:

Civic 1.8 S - Looks great imo, and quicker than some cars you've mentioned
BMW 1 Series - Something less associated with boy racers / young drivers. Maybe a 118i / 120i?

Probably not much help...

Shop round a few specialists, you'll be surprised what insurance quotes you get if you avoid the generic companies.

i did mean 2 litres not sure what happened there haha

The cars i listed, i could insure, but are £4k plus though generic insurance companies and still more than 2.5- 3k though specialists, and adrian flux arent cheap either.

belive me a fez ST is crazy on insurance now, the Zs is on my list, but im looking for something different, the area im from is rife with fiestas

It says less than 2 litres now, but even so, engine capacity isn't the key factor in insurance prices.

Try Greenlight insurance, they're dirt cheap on most things, even cheaper if the car is modified. Example - for a standard Astra VXR they quoted me just over a grand, when I told them about the mods and the fact it was 290bhp it dropped to below £800!!

INB4 someone suggests spending half your budget on a ropey M3 and the other half on insurance.

My advice would be to get some more no claims first then get something interesting rather than compromise for a lesser car to fit an insurance quote, especially a car costing £13k.

I'm going out on a limb and going to guess you're young, like me. The idea of spending 2-3 grand on insurance is pretty mad, but if you can afford it year on year, fair play to you. I've a 1.6 focus, and would hardly call it mild, so a 105 BHP polo is going to be bland, with a less interesting chassis to boot.

An ST or MK V GTI would be my choice

How about an old man car with some go (or what is perceived to be)?

You might get rather more for your money, insurance wise as well as other factors. Young chap, hot hatch = Corfu for Christmas for Mr Insurance man.
