Just wasted my afternoon on a 150 mile trip round the M25 to see a car I'm not sure existed.

Saw a car advertised on gumtree. Spoke to the guy advertising it and everything sounded good. Arranged to view it at his house at 5pm this evening, he gave me his postcode & street name and told me to call 10 mins before I arrived as he would be at work and thats how long it would take him to get home.

I called him at 4.45pm and got no answer, so followed my sat nav to the postcode/street he'd given and waited, and waited and waited. I didn't have a house number but did try calling and texted several times, it sounded like the call was declined rather than ringing off or going to voice mail. I finally gave up and went home when he hadn't contact me at 6pm! So with the 150 mile round trip thats just under 4 hours and a few gallons of diesel I wasted.

To say I am a little pissed off is an understatement. Why would someone do something like this? The fact he didn't give me a house number makes me think he did it deliberately. After googleing his mobile number it shows he had another car advertised in March. So a professional time-waster or just an ignorant tt?

Now I just need to decide what to do with his mobile and registration number?

I would have knocked on all the doors to see if anyone could identify him & the car.

I did speak to a few people who were coming home, none of them recognized his name or the car.

Haven't there been cases of people being robbed when turning up to view a car? Could it be you've had a lucky escape?

C*nt.

Try another phone, so he won't recognise your number.

Won't help with the car issue, but at least you can vent your spleen!

Oh, and make up some details and use his number on every online insurance/mortgage help/other help site you can think of.

It'll not help, but he'll have to get a new mob no.

At that stage I was only looking to view the car, not complete the deal, so only had a small amount of cash for a deposit.

The postcode took me to a row of about 10 houses, which is where I parked for over an hour. I'm now wondering if it was someones idea of a joke and the car/seller never really existed. May have just got board (or caught) dialing 999.

Possibly sold it and didn't have the b*ll*ocks to tell you is my guess, knowing you had probably already arrived if he had forgotten.

I just don't understand how some peoples minds work - why would you let someone waste time and money in this way, and then not even have the bks to talk to them either. What a complete toolbag!

I think if I was buying a second car ,it would be from someone on here or a dealer.
As I don't think anyone on here would waste your time and you know is a B@J.

It's possible, but it was only 90mins between me calling to confirm the viewing and arriving. Its unlikely that someone else could have called, viewed and agreed a deal, especially with the 10mins it would have taken him to travel from work to meet them, or maybe he'd already lined a few people up to view. Even so, I'd expect the most spineless of people to at least send a text tell me it had sold.
