Flux Insurance
Discussion
I know, I know, another thread on insurance.....
Renewal Came through today with a whopping saving of £22 on last years policy.
Spend most of the day trying to get it cheaper on the usual comparison sites and a few others not listed but also wanted to try flux as a new customer (have been with them 5 years)as we all know most renewals can be beaten as a new customer.
When entering modifications as its lowered with different alloys they ask how much the mod is worth?
Really?
I purchased the car like this 5 years ago - it probably cost the previous owner lots of money but in all honesty devalued the car.
How am I meant to know how much these mods cost if I don't have the receipts?
The fact it asks the question i'm assuming it can have quite an affect on the value of the policy otherwise they wouldn't ask but will continue through later on with both low and high prices and see what difference it makes.
No real purpose in this thread other than to see if anybody else has ever been asked the value of any mods as its the first time iv'e been asked on about the 800th site I have been on too.
As most of us know its cheaper on the street than in the garage and as iv'e always had mine on the street I wanted to see how much of a difference it would actually make..... £104.
£104 more to park it in the garage than the street.

It sounds very odd that you are getting higher prices garaging the vehicle then keeping it on the street. I've never personally come across that before. In regards to the mods prices, we are a broker and use many different insurers so we try to gather as much info as possible so that we get as many of those companies quoting as possible. Because we also cover mods on a like for like basis on most of our modified schemes, we would need costs if you know them so it helps us with claim costs etc. If you would like me to look into your policy pm me some details and I will check it out.
Thanks
Ash

I came across that in all the quotes I've ever got. My best (and entirely made up) theory is that more cars are stolen with keys than by being broken into. If the car is potentially 100 yards down the road, it's less likely that the tea-leaves will be able to match key to car. Same goes for driveway parking.abbotsmike said:

That theory does make sense and you are correct in saying that most cars are stolen with the keys however I'm pretty certain that none of the schemes we use at Flux load premiums for keeping a vehicle in the garage. I would imagine there would be other details that have changed that happen to be affecting it. Cars kept on the road still are more likely to be vandalised, broken into or be victims of accidents where no details were left. Shaw Tarse said:
Hi Ash, anecdotal "evidence" suggests that garaging a car does increase premiums, is there anyway you (or us) can check this?
Hello, I personally haven't seen evidence suggesting this. If its out there then if you post a link or somthing then i'll have a read. Obviously I can't speak on behalf of other insurers (they may operate differently) but with us generally garaging a vehicle will decrease your premium and will certainly never load it just on that information alone. Just to satisfy my curiosity, I went and had a look on a large comparison site.
All I changed was where the car was kept overnight, all returned prices were from a large grey mammal (The cheapest)
Ibiza FR tdi (2007)

If it was a non-fault, he'll still have his no claims.I had an accident a couple of weeks ago where my car was a write off, but I wasn't claimed on because the a
hole behind me was driving too close so I and the guy that I was pushed into claimed off of him. I still have my no claims.

I assume the quotes aren't with Flux though on this. Sounds like a strange rule to have but I suppose if certain insurers have all of a sudden had more claims from garaged vehicles than ones on the road they will adjust their rates accordingly.
