I want a comfy barge - I have my T350 for fun but at times it's just a pain when all I want to do is get in and drive in comfort and relax.
Apending between 6-10k what would your choice be and what would they be like in terms of running costs/ownership for those that have owned them?
I don't want a huge 6.0 V12 for example, more likely a 3.0 V6 or similar but do want ride comfort - something seriously lacking in top end cars nowadays (so no S line Audis), toys, reliability, build quality.
Just something I'm thinking of for now as I plan to also put my TVR away over winters.

Hmmm....V6 you say?
Enter stage left, Lexus GS300 in 3L form, and the 450h 3.5L with leccy motor, but reduced boot space.

3grand would get you the best on the market, with all the boxes ticked and a nice v6 to go with it. 1 grand would see you a decent one!

Or one of those with a couple of grand spare to spend on a manly BBQ and beer fridge set up.

My money would be spent on an S350 CDI for that budget, £10k gets you into a late model previous gen S-Class which, if you can find a facelift model - doesn't suffer from the electrical and corrosion issues of the "Chrysler years".

Not much bigger than an W211 E-Class, more toys, and supreme wafting comfort. The 3.0 CDI is also a very long lived unit with correct servicing.

Wouldn't buy a car from Baker Brothers. Stay well clear.
Don't worry, I suspect it's quite unlikely that the OP is going to dive in and buy that car purely because I posted a picture of it on here as an example of what you can get for £10K.

Definitely not - and this coming from an Accord owner!
Centre console terrible design, 5-speed auto box (in 2006?), thirsty, even when being lightfooted (24-25mpg), £460 to tax.
Lexus GS300 on 05 - pre-23/3/06 registration is £270 and hybrid is £240.

£10k ought to get you into a pretty nice S-type. I had one and it was the most comfortable car I've ever owned. And when you're sitting in it, you don't have to look at it wink

Or less, had 2 both 2.7D one SE & a Sport. I loved the looks & so did a lot of others.

Having just spent a few weeks in an E350 V6 petrol 06 facelift with the 7G gearbox, I would say that is about as good as it gets for that kind of money (well slightly over but not much). Wafty, yet handled well when required, a most excellent allrounder and WAY nicer than the diesel version if you like a bit of peace and quiet.
