OK Car is sorned but went for MOT 2 weeks ago and passed. Damn thing then wouldnt start and had to be relayed to a specialist 10 miles away.
Car now fixed

Am i still covered by the Drive to MOT, drive back when not taxed remit, or will it now be classed as requiring tax

I suppose that as the mileage has not changed since the MOT i can prove car has not been used on public road and i am now taking car back to normal place of keeping.

What say the learned members of PH?

I think you'll be pushing the boundaries of legality if you want to use it as a tax-free shuttle bus to your MOT station.

Did it pass the MOT then fail to start at the MOT station, or did you get it home then had the trouble?

Either way I'm guessing no, as you're only allowed to drive to and from a pre-arranged MOT.

'Drive to MOT' means 'drive to a pre-arranged MOT appointment that can be verified', and 'drive home' means 'drive to a place of repair after failing an MOT'. Neither seem to apply to you, so no.

Failed to start after MOT, they couldn't fix it, taken to specialist by trailer fixed there, ready to go back home.If they had had fixed it then i am ok, but i am only guessing that this is JUST about covered under that proviso. It is rule bending, but i dont want to break anything!

Nope... and why in any event haven't you taxed it in the last two weeks?

You must have had insurance to drive the car to the MoT legally, it's had a ticket for two weeks... what was stopping you getting the disc? Just not wanting to waste tax while the car was off the road, which is fair enough - but now it's not off the road.

Were you thinking you could drive home and park the car up on SORN until the end of the month?

CYMRO

yes it is insured until july

The car is normally sorned for the winter Nov-Apl
so i tax it May-Oct
The Mot runs out in March.I get it MOT then so if anything needs doing it is ready for the summer
I CAN drive it WITHOUT TAX to and From an MOT Centre, whether it passes or fails. Dems de Rules
Because the MOT Centre could not repair the failureit was TRAILERED ie None of its wheels were on the ground twixt there and the specialists.
Now IF the MOT centre had taken two weeks to repair it, i could drive i back under above mentioned rules still without tax as it is insured and but now has a valid MOT both of which are required to tax it, and tax is NOT reqd to drive it back home and it had not left the premises. BUT it was 'sub contracted' out to a specialist and was repaired there. The mileage on the MOT will show no miles between MOT pass and repair.
As i said i dont want to be caught by going from repair to home. I cannot see any difference between this and going straight home from the MOT centre if it had been repaired there., its just the two premises are 10 miles apart. There are several on here who like this type of question so i thought i would put it up before i pick the car up

It is on its way back from the MOT station following repair. Just inform the MOT station that you are collecting it.

Though this might get you in trouble, you could try calling your local bib and see what they say.

You can tax from SORN 2 working days before the end of the month. Get a disc on Friday & arrange to pick it then. I assume you're trying to avoid paying for April's tax?

WEll it does seem rather a pisser paying tax just for that. Pick up Fri is out as i am working. However didnt realise you could use a disc prior to the month. Must remember that
Thanks for all the input

If you trailered it there, why can't you trailer it back?

I'd say no, as you won't be returning from the place of the original MOT.
