Changing a Speedo - KMH to MPH

I've recently driven my Focus ST170 from Sweden to the UK, and I now need to change the speedo from KMH to MPH.

I don't really want to swap the whole dash, because the mileage would be incorrect. Could I not simply put an MPH speedo faceplate in place of the KMH one?

One part of me thinks that something would need re-calibrating, while the other part thinks that, in theory, in should just work.

Thoughts?

Quick thought - Lockwood dial kits, available from Demon Tweeks, these have both kmh/mph? So surely you could fit these? Or am i being simple? lol

I know this doesn't specifically answer the OP question but I thought all cars sold in the EU had to have both?

If you did do just the dials, it would still clock the mileage up in KMs.

On my Evo, it's done with an electronic converter near the speedo pickup in the gearbox with something like THIS.

I am in no way connected with them, it's just the first hit in google.

Make sure when you get it done that you record the mileage you did the changeover.

I'm not really bothered about it clocking up the mileage in KM, but I am bothered about sticking with the original dash, to keep the number of K's covered, the same.

I figured just taking the existing dash apart and fitting a new faceplate, showing the MPH and KMH would do the job.

Not even when you come to sell it and it's got [for example] 160,000 instead of 100,000?

It's not a legal requrement to have a MPH speedo, so I wouldn't bother.

Just remember 5 numbers.

48 = 30
64 = 40
80 = 50
96 = 60
112= 70

Why not swap the dash and then have the mileage corrected? Loads of companies offer this service, and your case is one of the legitimate reasons for the service existing!!

At least I did when bringing over my Alfa about 4yrs ago.

Surprised at that. My old M3 (Imported from Germany 1997) never had that issue.
