The problem with the good ones is that they are generally in bright colours and too shiny. I would rather spend the price of a good one getting this one up & running. I think the rat look suits it.

I've just spoken to the seller, specifically about the floor and chassis, and I've secured the help of a PH'er with a twin plenum Rover Vitesse, a hook and a trailer.

Wouldnt bother, we spent two grand on a "fairly solid" Fiat 500 and even getting and keeping it MOT'd was/is a trial, there is always something needing attention and that is one that supposedly had an mot four months prior, even with using my own labour we have spent another £1500 on it and the body is still ropey. If you do decide to go for it, I would say that needs two or three grands worth of parts, every bit of rubber, ever seal, all the brakes, all the tyres will need replacing, it will need welding, it will need painting, the engine will probably need a rebuild. I would say go for it if you want a project but not if you want a car soon, you will need a decent sized garage, a mig, tools and plenty of tools, not saying dont, but dont be under any illusions this is quick fix, even if left "ratted" as Rat Look is only top show, it still has to pass an MOT.

At the end of the day these are fairly charming old things but really, they are a bit crap, woefully slow, if you havent driven one I suggest you try a decent one as you might get it pristine and then drive it and realise how slow and wobbly it is, as on here people criticise a 1.2 Polo for being dangerous due to being too slow, god knows what they would make of one of these or the 500, I would rather invest all that effort in a Mini as they are way more fun, drop a lightly warmed 1300 in and they are so much more fun.

I cant believe the prices of these things nowadays. I bought one about 12 years ago for £650, it was in tidy order and ran perfectly for a couple of years before I sold it for the same price

Chassis swaps are pretty simple . . . . .get it, swap the chassis out and see if you can find a 4 cylinder motor out of an Ami to replace the standard 2 cylinder, whilst its spread over your garage
