Maxi was a 1500 and a 1750 IIRC not a 1275

I think most cars that held the A-series were available in 1.275 form. The midget certainly was.

My first car was an MGB Roadster and I certainly never regretted it. A Midget would be a great first car. smile

Something like this: http://pistonheads.com/sales/3827821.htm if you could batter the price down a bit.

had a m8 who put the 1750 engine out of a maxi into a mini before. that dont help the op at all but you could always put a mini engine into a maxi i suppose if you really are looking for the slowest car you can find

I did that as well, but 10 inch wheels screwed up gearing leaving first redundant (0-5mph!). Couldn't close the bonnet either what with that engine being so tall. And don't even get me started on cooling it!

You might find that you're pleasantly surprised by the cost of insurance on a classic through specialist insurers. From memory, I paid about 350 quid to insure my MGB in the first year, when my friends were spending four figures on a Nova.

My first car was a Viva. Best of luck trying to find one, because mine visibly rusted away as I looked at it. Painfully slow, as well.

Visa's engine will probably be 1124cc, maybe 954c but I don't really recall them confused . But they definitely did the Visa Club, which had the 652cc engine from the 2CV - a slow but quite economical car indeed, and as rare as a pound of rocking horse poo I suspect hehe .

You could also try the Peugeot 104, which had the same 1124cc engine as the Visa as well as a little 954cc plus 1360cc 'performance' ones as well (70bhp, anyway). You could try an early 205, pre-88 they had the same engines as the 104. As did the Talbot Samba.

Or there's the Renault 5, from 956cc from memory. Or the Renault 4 which I seem to recall had a 850 at some point but most had the same 956cc engine? (Will have to get me old Motor Road Test Annuals out to check these, though, as I'm a Peugeot fan rather than Renault smile ).

Talking rare stuff now though frown ; they rarely appear at car shows any more...

Mine, 1296cc and cost £2,600, with minimal rust and a few everyday mods smile

cheap insurance, about 1/3 less than my mums fiat, at £85 a month, try and shop around for more specialist insurance. (you will need a garage though, or it will turn into a rusty heap in 20 mins) biggrin

The maxi was never 1300.It started as a 1500 then became a 1750.
The 1500s also had an awful and unreliable cable gearchange.
