Currently. Are they made in the same plants as their more humble siblings or are they seperate facilities?

Just curious.

I'm sure M cars are made on the standard production line these days.

AMG, some are, some aren't, not entirely sure.

As for Alpina, not sure either but I think they have their own factory?

Some Alpina cars are made in the same factory I believe. They take BMW motors to their own facilities, spec them to whatever they desire, then send them back to the BMW factory to be put into the cars.

They are registered as an Alpina rather than BMW. Alpina are classed at their own manufacturer, whereas AMG is 'just' an approved tuner I think.

Sure somebody has more info than I!

Alpina are a manufacturer and have different chassis numbers they stamp on the cars in addition to the original BMW ones which was always a pain come MOT time, explaining to the tester why it had 2 chassis numbers.

The main mechanical parts of Alpinas are now sent to BMW and installed on the assembly lines. The car then goes to Alpinas factory in Buchloe to be finished for certain mainly cosmetic extras such as special leathers etc.

The AMG factory is in Affalterbach which is 50 KM north east of Stuttgart. The AMG cars are made here with M-B delivering the chassis etc from the factory. If you do a search on YouTube you will see a number of tours.

Alpina AG is based in Buchloe which is due west of Munich. Alpina do do some work at the factory on completed cars but as stated they supply the parts required to BMW who assemble the engines, chassis etc on the production line. Alpina do finish some cars depending upon the requests and final finish. The UK cars are finished by Sytner in Nottingham when delivered and road tested.
