Insurers with "Driving Other Cars" clause
Discussion
It's renewal time
I was wondering if anybody knew of any insurers that have a 'driving other cars' clause in their policy for a 19 year old? Most insurers that even offer it seem to be age restricted now, the only one that isn't that I know of is Co-op (who I'm with now). To be fair I can't fault the service I've had with them so far, but they're going to be a few hundred more than anybody else this year.
In particular, I would be interested to know if Admiral group do it, as they're the cheapest quote I've received so far.
Cheers

I don't know if it will help you much really, but i had insurance on an old Land Rover 90 (1994 i think) before i was 25 and it included drive other cars, i was well happy as the insurance was pretty cheap aswell! Only problem is that i cannot remember for the life of me who is was with! But i know they specialized in limited mileage/off road vehicles such as Landy's, so might be worth some research around that?!

I think also that "Driving Other Cars" on a policy means that the other car you end up driving is insured Third Party Only, as it's really just meant for emergency use, not driving someone elses flash motor as already stated.
My policy covers me fully comp to drive any (already insured) vehicle, and for anyone can drive my vehicles and they will have fully comp cover, but they have to be over 30. So it depends on the policy, but not that many give you cover to drive other cars...jsc15 said:

Emergency use has no legal basis. You can insure a shed and drive a mate's flash motor On DOC every day of the week if you like. Finding a mate who will lend you the flash motor when you just have TP cover is the tricky bit

Bell (part of Admiral) did offer an option to add this clause to your policy for a small fee a few years back, but I think it's gone now, hard to say because I crossed the 25 year threshold and now get it automatically.
This was when they offered a policy called Flexibell - which they've now withdrawn, therefore you can't do it.I'm 22 and have it on a policy through Adrian flux with groupama as the underwriter. Specialist insurance policy for my car a mini.
It's 3rd party cover only, but useful. It makes life easier if you live in a household with a few cars.
The main reason I got it is because petrolhead friends have offered a 'go' in their new car and I've had to decline previously.
I found it much more useful on my motorbike policy though, and had it automatically frOm age 21. It's quite nice that if I wake up to a flat tire or other problem on my bike, I could borrow another one out of the garage.
