Hi all, just thought i'd introduce myself on here smile

I've been lurking on PH's for years now, just never got round to joining! I am a member of 3 or 4 VAG Forums as that is really where my main interests are, although here is a constant source of inspiration for future cars smile

I am 26 and originally from Essex, although i have been traveling for about 18 months now and am currently in Aus smile

Here is a quick run through of my previous cars (in order!), as some may say they define you...

1 - 1994 (IIRC) Rover Metro - Bought by my dad from someone he worked with, never actually used it on the road as i bought my next car before i'd even passed! So it just got driven in the garden lol!

2 - 1968 VW Beetle - The love of my life! I class this as my first proper car, bought when i was 17, i still have her and will NEVER sell her, she is called 'The Little Green Tart'. Patiently awaiting restoration when i get home!

3 - 2003 Renault Clio Billabong - First car i bought from a dealer, was a fun car to have at 18 and quite cool at that age smile, but i would never buy one again, certainly not from a dealer!

4 - 1991 VW Jetta - I was saving for a house.. it was slow, square but still it was fun at the time smile No regrets!

5 - 1971 VW Type 3 Notchback - Bit of a story with this one, bought it from Reading, engine caught fire at the petrol station on the way home! Spent 3 months sat on the drive under a gazebo while me and my old man restored the engine! Was a lovely car, but as you may be able to tell by now, i always want a different car lol! If i have one again (and i want to!) i will be 2 - 3 years earlier at least, ideally an early 60's one though smile

6 - 1996 Peugeot 106 - Bit of a gap filler while i looked for inspiration for another car, cost 300 notes, ended up keeping it for about a year as it was so much fun to drive, nippy little bugger!

7 - 2001 Audi TT - First properly fast car i owned, and it was absolutely immaculate! Kept it for about a year or so, shouldn't have sold it in hindsight as it was SOOOO clean! But wanted something more capable of carrying bikes and snowboards... boys and their toys!

8 - 2001 VW Golf GTTDI - decided to go diesel as i was doing a bit more mileage for work.. this was the car that really got me into the watercooled VW modifying scene smile was always playing about with it, but in the end it was a diesel, so it had to go smile

9 - 2003 Audi TT - As i said, i regretted selling my previous one, so i bought this one, i regret that... It was never going to be as nice/clean/good as my first...

10 - 2004 Audi A4 Avant - Absolutely loved this car! Only sold it due to coming travelling, but i wish i could have kept it! I actually bought a different A4 first, but i have a habit of still looking on PH/Autotrader even after buying cars! Dangerous! Found this one, which like my TT was SO clean and SO well looked after and it was a bloody bargain so i had to have it! It was an Auto, but to my surprise, i loved driving an auto! For a daily driver it just made sense! Wish i could buy it back!

11 - 1994 Land Rover Defender 90 - Bought this little beauty for off-roading and she did not disappoint! My old man used to have Defenders and i always loved them so i had to have my own smile Seriously all you really need is a decent set of off-road tyres and these things are almost unstoppable! Had some brilliant fun splashing about in the mud smile

So yea, im a bit of a petrol head smile

I am due to come home later this year, and while i have been away have started a banger rally (which im sure some of you have heard of) so i have alot to do for that to get everything ready for my first rally in Sept 2012 smile I have quite a few teams together already, and who knows, might even try to get some of you to join in smile I'm really looking forward to it as i think it will be great fun to be cruising the continent with like minded people and having a good old knees up at the end smile For anyone who is interested feel free to give me a shout smile or google 'Random Rallies' and you'll find our site smile

I look forward to now officially being a PH'er smile

Martin

Hi Martin,
I'm in LA at the moment so you just got up and I'm on my @ glass of bed time wine wink
Never been to Aus but on my bucket list.
I love my life and cars but wish I was your side of 50. If I was a post card it would be 'having a great time wish you were here'.
Welcome and enjoy your life with no regrets, I suspect that's not you anyway.
Cheers,
Tony
