A little help please. I'm getting a bad vibration through the steering wheel - but only at times. On the motorway, sometimes its there and then it goes away. It seems to be unrelated to road surface or speed, but does get worse the faster I go.

I've had the wheels re-balanced, but it makes no difference. Changing wheels from the front to back also doesn't seem to help.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing it?

Thanks.

I had this on my Primera but now it's surprisingly gone away.

A friend had this issue quite a while ago and turned out his wheel nuts were loose.

Are they aftermarket wheels?

Wheel balance imho. Get it checked somewhere good.

edit to add: I know you say you've had it done, but that doesn't mean it's not that. Perhaps borrow another set of wheels and see if it's the same/worse/better?

could be suspension related too, is it worse under braking?

Could be suspension bushes have gone soft with age, an out of round tyre or off the wall: Has the car got an engine undertray? I've seen a number of cars lately with these flapping away under the car on motorways, I wonder if they cause a vibration?

I had a vibration on my Puma under acceleration that stopped when you held a speed. It turned out to be a knackered drive shaft. Just a thought.
