Hi guys, a bit of help please.

I bought a personal plate for the bike. However, the retention certificate arrived, but I've no idea how to go from here... The certificate is still in the owners name, but they have put my name in the nominee section and signed it. Apparently, I need to send off £25? Then I think the certificate gets sent back to the owner, not me?

There's a dvla office in Chester near me, can I take it down to them with the £25, my v5 doc and tax disc, and have the plate transferred to me? Or do I need to send off the certificate with the £25, and then get the owner to resend it to me after my name as the nominee is put on?

Cheers.

I sold a plate recently on eBay, and what I did was, I added the name of the buyer to the retention document as the Nominee, and filled out the details of the car that they wanted to put the plate on.

Then sent the document to him with a cheque for £25 to send to DVLA or take to a local office (with the V5C, tax disc, MOT certificate etc.). You can add a nominee and assign the plate at the same time, so this should be fine, and the plate will then go on to your car and the documents will come to you.

What you CAN'T do is assign a nominee WITHOUT putting it on to a vehicle at the same time - if you do that, the new retention document will go to the Grantee (the original owner of the retention document)
