So we all hear about people insurance being through the roof at the moment. I have my mother on my insurance as a named driver as, despite being 24 and living 250 miles away from ger, it brings my premium down. I receive a letter through the post yesterday telling me that my insurance will be going up by £90! Simply because I was now a higher risk due to a detail I ommited in my quote. I had no idea what this was so gave them a call. They told me that their sister company's data base had thrown up the fact that my mother had had a claim in March 2010. I genuinly had no ida about this. After a bit of digging it turns out that she was a named driver on my brothers policy when someone crashed into his parked alfa during the night.

So because a named driver on my policy was a named driver on another policy that had a non-fault claim against it, they wanted to charge me an extra £90! Crazy I tell you.

Anyway, I simply took my mother of the policy which just meant I didn't have to pay the extra money. Still, extortionate don't you think!

There is no "trying to screw them", it's a perfectly legitimet thing to do. It just means she can drive it if she wants, no laws broken, perfictly morally fine to do. If they want to give me cheaper insurance to have an extra driver, why wouldn't I have one?

Well we have had our cars on an admiral multicar policy since Jan 2011, when we got it everything was declared all accidents etc we had been involved in.

The price was good so we renewed this year and now have the Juke and evoque insured with them.

However today 3 months into the policy we get a letter from them telling us they are going to take an extra £180 off us due to an undeclared incident. So i ring up and ask why?

Apparently its as a result of a non fault accident i had in March 2010 when some tit reversed into my scirocco. Firstly they have been told about this accident by my partner in 2011, its also should be on their records as at the time i was hit i was insured with elephant their sodding sister company and i went through the insurance at the time because it wasnt my sodding fault!!

Clearly they have made a balls up when quoting and now thing its ok 3 months into the current policy to just up the premium instead of just swallowing their mistake.

I am a bit annoyed to say the least!

How is it screwing them? Mum is on all 3 of mine but hasn't driven a yard in any of my current fleet. It does however mean that should she need to drive my car(s) (and in the past she has) she is FC to do so.

I think you'll find that adding a named driver who doesn't actually drive the car (not least because they live 250 miles away) is less than 100% straight!

You sound like an arse there. How is he trying to screw the companies over? He's causing no harm whatsoever by putting his mother as a named driver. If he had put her as the main driver and himself at the named, then yes he'd be screwing them over (as well as himself as insurance would be void), but hes just doing a fully legitimate thing to lower his premium slightly. Nearly every single younger driver has older named driver on their policy as it usually brings the cost down.

And OP, insurance companies all wanted to put my insurance up by about £100 due to a claim on my mums policy made a few years ago, it's silly, it wasn't classed as a non fault unfortunately as her car was hit in a car park and details weren't left, although i was told by my insurance that if it was a non fault then it wouldn't have cost me anything :S. So obviously i just didn't put her as a named driver.

Why the frig shouldnt he have someone on the policy regardless of how likely they are to drive the vehicle? Covers all eventualities sometimes, you sound a tt.

Why? I visit my parents several times a year, she may well need to drive it at some point. And if if that wasn't the case, whats the problem?
