Hard to phrase my question correctly but does anyone have any experience of selling their car to a main dealer?

I've got a year old Fiat 500 and fancy something a bit more fun (i.e. quick) again. I've had a reasonable offer from the dreaded We Buy Any Car, and obviously selling privately is an option but just not looking forward to the time wasters and stuff.. had the idea of phoning Fiat (there are several dealers in the area) to see if they'd be interested in taking it off me given the good condition and low mileage. Do they do this sort of thing or will they only generally buy stock in that's a part exchange on a new car sale?

Cheers.

Can't speak for Fiat, but most main dealers will buy second hand cars. If they're not going to sell them they'll just bump them off to auction like they do with their PXs.

I sold my last Focus to a Renault dealership for £500 more than webuyanycar quoted, although the Vauxhall dealership next door weren't interested when they saw it had a couple of scratches.

Just shop around really.

No, they'll buy in if it's a desirable car but price will depend on their own stock and demand and you'll tend to get a low-ball offer unless they have a customer waiting.

As an example, I bought a Civic Type R and PX'd it after 6 months and all the dealers did was hawk it round the Honda dealers. Best offer they got on a mint low-mile car was £13k so I lost £3k.

Don't see why not. Stock's stock as long as they can get it for a good price.

I'd hope it'd be prime sort of stock for them so I guess I'll pop over to my local dealer and see them! Problem is having not had a sunny day in a while to get the thing valeted as it looks like a shed at the moment! smile

You've answered your own question. Phone them all and they will offer you prices - you can pehaps play them off each other to get the best deal. IIRC dealers will be biting your hand off for a 500! Not the other way around. Most will offer a price over the phone, although it is probably best to let them view it just take a day off and go around them all - much better than sitting waiting at home for some private seller never to arrive...
