Porsche 924. Get a 1980 or after as they were completely zinc dipped for rust protection.

would get a nice Mk1/Mk2 Escort with something like a zetec transplant?
Capri Mk1?

911 SC? although I don't know how good a car you can pick up for 10K.
MGB GT with a V8 transplant?

sure there are loads of decent cars for that money, but those would ones at the top of my list i think.

Why pre 82 out of interest?

Some local Events in Switzerland are for pre 82 cars, must be a 30 year rule.

This may be a daft question, but what are you planning to use it for? Do you actually want to race it, if so in what series?

Track cars and racing cars tend to be rather different things.

Thinking about hill climbs, and some trackdays for fun.

Welcome thoughts.

Try browsing here: http://pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?s=119smile

Shame this isn't a year older: http://pistonheads.com/sales/3729059.htm It's probably quite amusing.

That Westfield does not look 30 years old. I wonder how much of it is original/restored, and how much was replaced.

They've upholstered the interior in one of Michael Jackson's jackets!

Ah, OK. I wonder if that counts for the OP's requirement.

Not sure if its appropriate to mention 1979 MGB roadster?
I have an ex Luffield Championship winner 2000,2001? (standard car) that was also campaigned at hillclimbs Shelsley Walsh, Prescott and many others between 2000 and 2008, which is when I bought it, so it retired from racing, but still has Corbeau seats 4 point harnesses roll bar uprated suspension, fire extinguisher, Yokohama tyres, New Ivor Searle unleaded engine 30000 miles ago,102bhp, electronic ignition, electronic fuel pump. I have converted it to chrome bumper, which obviously adds weight but still goes well. All taxed and MOTd
If you want to look through racing history, the owner driver was Phillip Methuen, the reg no is OXI 148, its triple black( Black bodywork, Black Hood and Black interior), listed at many of the race meetings between those dates.

Here is the MGB just before I bought it in March 2008.

Acquired by the vendor eight years ago, this MG B was thoroughly prepared for competing in MGCC Standard Class speed events. The suspension has been lowered and uprated and a ¾-in anti-roll bar fitted, an Ivor Searle engine installed, four point seat harnesses and Corbeau-type seats installed. The car was re-wired, the bumpers lightened and adapted for quick removal, and the car was subsequently repainted. For the last seven seasons the vendor has competed in numerous hill climb and sprint events with the MG Car Club and has won the Standard Class twice and set several records at various venues including Castle Coombe and Goodwood.

Representing an opportunity to acquire a proven competition MG B for an incredibly modest sum, with the engine having been set up on a rolling road by Tom Airey of Airey Tuning Co. last summer, the car is virtually ready for the coming season and would prove ideal for a newcomer to motorsport with a small budget.

An ideal ‘drive to work and compete at weekends’ car, it is supplied with numerous bills, extensive details of work carried out, original driver’s handbook, several previous MOT certificates, V5C, photograph of the car being campaigned and a current MOT certificate valid until 11th July 2008

Year of Manufacture: 1979
