What 2 car fleet? Budget £5k a year.
Discussion
So a what car thread with a difference - it's for 2 cars for Mrs and I.
Currently running a Mk1 MX5 which I've owned since 1989 and I adore it. However to keep it in good shape in the next few years it needs some work doing to it (new roof, rust work, re-spray, new panels etc.)
The Mrs needs a more practical car to transport herself around and to carry any near-future junior oysters around in.
Now the dilemma is that I want at least one of our cars to be a fast, premium car. I don't care if it's hers or my one.
The options:
1. Keep the MX5 for me (with a few £k spent on overhaul) and get something like a 535d or M5 or similar for her.
2. Get rid of my MX5 and replace with a 997 or similar and get the Mrs an economical euro-box.
The budget:
Realistically it would be up to about £4k-£5k a year excluding fuel.
Any thoughts?

Am I missing something, £5k budget to get a 535d, M5 or 997 and something for the better half?
What is the budget for purchasing these cars?
£5k a year, so needs to account for depreciation, servicing, warranty and repairs/tyres.What is the budget for purchasing these cars?
The actual purchase price is mostly irrelevant.

If purchase cost is 'irrelevant' why not get a Lamborghini Countach or a Ferrari F40 (As I believe they are appreciating in value thus negating the over 5k a year in running costs) and get the misses a fiesta? The actual purchase price is mostly irrelevant.

I could spend up to about £100k on purchase price but not more than £5k a year in overall costs (including depreciation).
I also need the weekend car to be more than 2 seats, or else there's a danger I'd only use it once a month or so, which for me would be useless. I commute to work by bicycle and at weekends it's rarely just me in the car.
